I always thought it was because I didnt grow up with any siblings (they are lots older than me) and we lived in the country so they kept me company.

Her mum vividly recalls how she had to set an extra place at the table for a certain one, another one needed to be tucked in at night, and still another one accompanied her to school.

My mom is a preschool teacher and says that one of the little boys she teaches has an imaginary friend who comes to school with him. One day he was sitting on the swings and talking to his "friend", and my mom swears the empty swing next to him started to move! Probably just the wind, but it freaked her and the other teacher out!

Last but not least, I know a Christian counsellor who says that imaginary friends are actually guardian angels, and that children who have them can actually see and talk to their guardian angels as they're "close to heaven", while we grown-ups are "too far from heaven" to be able to communicate with ours. I like that take on things.

Must have looked freaking hilarious to anyone who was walking past or if my parents were looking out the window, as I did it on the back door step.
Mine used to show up quite prominently at bath time where we would "hang and chat". They did show up one more time when I was about 6, I was walking along a chain bridge and feeling rather euphoric as it was a bit or a right of passage for our school playground. Another girl walked past and witnessed me saying "What are you guys doing here!!??" and piped up with a "Peace... are you talking to YOURSELF?". Last time we ever saw each other!
Maybe get some details of what Peter looks like and what his favourite foods/activities are. I wonder what his Mum and Dad do?? It will make a nice little keepsake for when he is no longer a little guy.

Cameron has 'Peter' - who hung around for a bit then disappeared a couple of months ago. Driving home from daycare last week and the talk was all 'Peter did this', 'Peter did that'. I asked if there was a new boy named Peter at daycare, but no, this is Peter the imaginary friend back again.
As far as imaginary friends go, he's pretty harmless. Just hangs around daycare and doesn't seem to come home with us (apart from all the stories). I remember my cousin having an imaginary friend who came to dinner all the time and my auntie used to set a place at the table for him!!!
Just curious as to how widespread this imaginary friend thing is....my older child didn't have one (she did have a skeletin family living under her bed for a while though ).
