How well could they speak? well, he speaks a lot, not sure if it would be defined as "well"
Were you able to understand them? at times - he parrots the older brother
Did they speak in sentences? parroting but not understanding what he is saying apart from "thank you" and "there he is"
Did they still babble and use the occasional word you could understand? a lot

Did they jump yet? With both feet off the ground? climbing like crazy and jumping off things.
Make animal noises? monkey, elephant and tiger
Sing songs? yes, a lot (once again parroting from borhter)
Know their colours? no
Recognise animals? some.

Anything else you can think of?
Build puzzles yet? at times


I think Taine seems ahead of what jake was, pretty much the second child thing. he copies a lot off Jake and learns that way i think.

What could your 21 or close to 2 year old do?
Just curious.

How well could they speak? : I think Zaara says many words, I can understand what she is saying and so do her grandparents, even our friends.

Were you able to understand them?: I think she says enough + sign + facial impression for us to undertand what she is trying to say.

Did they speak in sentences? one or two words together. eg where papa? Papa outside? GO Outside! My toys!! My mama!! etc

Did they still babble and use the occasional word you could understand? Yap!!

Did they jump yet? With both feet off the ground? No she jumps but looks more like a skip!!

Make animal noises? yes Meow for cat, Woof woof for Dog, oooo aaaahhh ooo for Monkey, Roar for Tiger/Lion, ssssnnnnnssss for a snake, oink oink (with facial) for Pig, MOOOOO for a Cow, Baaa baaa for Lamb, Pheeewwww (with hand on her nose) for Elephant, chip chip chip for a bird Etc

Sing songs? Yes She says Twinkle Twinkle.....Star!!, Row Row.... Dorathy dorathy.....ETC

Know their colours? Yes and NO...She knows Yellow really well

Recognise animals? Yap show her a pic and she knows what noises they make and for the ones she doesnt know the sound she knows what they are for example Pingu (Penguin), Zeeba (Zeebra), Butter (Butterfly), horsey, Teady (any bear), Spider is the hand sign of ITCEY Bitcy...etc

Anything else you can think off? She tries to put shoes and cloths on her doll...not 100% successful yet but she is working on it!


Build puzzles yet? I bought her those wooden puzzles...the ones that have a background corresponding pic she can place the pieces in the correct slot!!

What could your 21 or close to 2 year old do?

How well could they speak?
not very well, he knows lots of words but mostly just repeats what he hears.

Were you able to understand them?
some of the time.

Did they speak in sentences?
not yet, just one word at a time and very rarely two.
Did they still babble and use the occasional word you could understand?
yes, thats pretty much where he's at now.

Did they jump yet? With both feet off the ground?
yes!! i can't stop him. i blame his father for teaching him to jump on the bed.

Make animal noises?
just basic ones like woof and meow

Sing songs?
he has a couple of songs that he sort of babbles along to as he does the actions.

Know their colours?
not yet.

Recognise animals?
yes but just the basic ones that he sees alot.

Anything else you can think of?
he can do basic action songs like incy wincy spider and some of the wiggles songs.

quite well, although I often "translate" for non family members, lol

Were you able to understand them?

Yep, but like i said, sometimes needs translation

Did they speak in sentences?

yep, 3 or 4 words sometimes

Did they still babble and use the occasional word you could understand?

yep and still does

Did they jump yet? With both feet off the ground?

a real climber (thats a boy thing, I think) but not quite jumping at 2, but is now. Would jump off stuff though!

Make animal noises?

basic ones, woff, miaow

Sing songs?

yep, loves twinkle and row row

Know their colours?

yep

Recognise animals?

Basic ones, cat dog and owl, which is random

Anything else you can think off?

He goes to dayvare, and they have a structured learning system, so I think that helps alot with it all.

Build puzzles yet?

Sort of. Builds with blocks a bit, but is mainly a real outdoors boy, digging, carting stuff in weelbarrows, kicking ball around etc

How well could they speak?  Yes as he had just gotten grommets in, so could finally hear us talking to him
Were you able to understand them? Yes as above
Did they speak in sentences?  Basic sentences
Did they still babble and use the occasional word you could understand? Now single words so we could understand that
 
Did they jump yet? With both feet off the ground? Yes I had a climber
Make animal noises? Yep, he knew at that age: dog, cat, pig, cow, horse
Sing songs? Yes but there were a few words missing
Know their colours? Yep
Recognise animals? Cat, Dog, Pig and Cow

Anything else you can think off? Andrew was in fulltime daycare by then so was in an environment that was teaching him rather than playing (as some daycares just play) so was being taught an awful lot.

Briona had a Plunket (Well Child) check at 22 1/2 mos, so I'm working off the notes made then:

How well could they speak?
Says "Nona" (her name), "my", can name breakfast/lunch items (rorort for yoghurt, ock-ock for chocolate), "all gone", "hands"=she wants to hold hands

Were you able to understand them?
Yes but still needed an interpreter for people outside of our family/home

Did they speak in sentences?
1-2 words at a time only

Did they still babble and use the occasional word you could understand?
Not a lot of babbling

Did they jump yet? With both feet off the ground?
She tried to jump but I don't think she could do it with both feet yet, but she could jump on the trampoline

Make animal noises?
Some, she could repeat what we did so that was pretty much "meow" and "woof"

Sing songs?
La la a tune

Know their colours?
A few (pink, yellow, orange)

Recognise animals?
Dog and cat and a couple of others from time to time

Build puzzles yet?
Simple ones

Anything else you can think of?
Could repeat things by rote such as simple counting (we say 1, she says 2; a,b; h,i)
