yeah i'm not the biggest fan of ecobubs but for different reasons.

It was just my personal opinion. i dont think so! it would just give you an extra layer. Ecobubs wool pockets are made like that with the wool/wool blend sewn over the PUL layer.

I prefer snaps over velcro but you would need to get your hands on a snap press.

Microfleece is best for against bubs butt. But you can use suadecloth as well.

For the waterproof outer by far the most popular is PUL. You can put fabric over the top of this however if you do this the nappy won't be suitable for night time.

The nappies you made look great Janey! I was looking on the Nappy Network website, but not too sure which pattern would be the best for newborn - would like pocket nappies I think.

Also what kind of fabric do you use? I read you usually have microfleece in the inner, then a waterproof outer, or can cover the waterproof with a nicer outer. What fabrics have you found best?

I'm a first time mum (not due until April, so heaps of time to get nappy making) but really keen to use cloth nappies. Do you make them all with Velcro, or some with snaps too?

If anyone else has some helpful hints re: making nappies please let me know!

Lol, they are a bit addictive... because its such a cool feeling when u have finished making one and it looks so good so u just have to start making another...

I might try making some bibs as well.

The elastic was the hardest part... make sure you stretch the leg elastic out fully when you are sewing! On my practice one, I had one leg hole that was way wider than the other, lol. But when you have fully stretched it, it comes out great. I used the clear lastin stuff, which I was scared would break if I stretched it too far... but I actually tried to break it and couldn't! Which made me lose that fear and just go for gold.

I think prints are generally more 'crinkly' than plain PUL. You can get print knit PUL (or something like that) which is a bit softer, but still not really.

They look sooo great!! well done!!

I was looking at the pattern and instructions the other day and you are right - it's really simple. I got some fabric the other say so I can't wait to try making them. Here are some of the pocket nappies I made:



They were so easy, I haven't sewed since about Form 2! They are the same size/shape as the small Peapods nappy. I used instructions from the NappyNetwork free pattern, and they were so easy to follow, with photos to show you how to do it. And it is a million times cheaper to make one than to pay $20-30 for one new!
