the likes of peapods the inserts need to be washed around 6 times before you get full absorbancy. if i can resist putting them on straight away, i usually wash them and pop them in the dryer for abit. otherwise (and generally) no i don't

but in saying that, i have experienced leakage probs from most new nappies before they have been washed and dried a few times

I did, if you have hemp inserts then they will need a few pre washes to help with the absorbancy.
