someone needs to make pull up MCNs. There are times when I have to go and take a deep breath with the frustration from trying to change Ella's nappy.  I could just scream!  She is up and running away about 6 times during the one nappy change... worse now that she's got 2 creams that need to go on her bum, and she can't resist putting her hand there before it's been cleaned up     It's definantly a 2-person job, but there's just the one of me, dag nab it.

Yeap - we were kinda behind with a lot of the physical milestones but at least we are getting there eventually and not skipping them altogether!!!!

geez you got to 14 months and this is only just happening...soooo unfair!

Ella wwriggles, squirms, crawls away, twists (no idea how!) grabs change mat and sucks it....

I end up giving her a toy in front of her face and quickly doing nappy, putting legs close each side of hers to try and trap her (she now crawls over them!) or throw her on her back across my knees (once nappy is on)....and I know it gonna get worse when she can get up and run cause she crawls fast enough now! I guess once they understand more it gets easier. This morning we left the house with one sock off and no shoes as it was just not worth the screaming!

I ended up doing the standing up nappy change... I found it pretty easy - just do up the nappy first and slide it on like underwear. Bit of a mission to wriggle the insert into place but a whoooole lot easier than the lying down screaming fit! hehe

Lou posted a pattern for a trainer pant thing on her blog, which was basically a pocket nappy but with stretch lycra on the side. This sounds really awful but it works for us.
I lock her head between my knees and change her upside down. She hasn't gotten away from me yet.

If the head lock doesn't work, try going further down and locking the shoulders as well. Crikey it gets worse?? Kaleb already tries to wriggle away from us when we change his nappy or clothes. Yup I do much the same as Becca - and still occasionally need to do it for Briona (sorry that gives you little hope, doesn't it!) except that I spread my legs straight in front of me so that I pin down the child's arms at the shoulder. Just imagine the next stage... they lie nice and still, but try to put their hands into everything that's going on!

I had already stopped pinning Josiah when he started this, since he was lying nice and still, so instead I put my feet on his shoulders and pinned his arms down!

I know this sounds mean but... sit sideways to her, and put your leg gently across her chest literally pinning her to the floor while talking to her about what's going on: "Lie still for Mummy... I'm just going to change your nappy quickly... Wow, what a good girl lying down for Mummy!... Nearly finished" stuff like that. It doesn't matter that the only reason she's lying down is because you've trapped her, the point is she's contained and you can change her as quickly as possible. Once she gets the idea and lies still under your leg, lift it up a little so that it's still there but not pinning her and see how she behaves.

Ideas from the treasure mag

Stick a loop of sticky tape or a couple of stickers on her hands. Her trying to pick them off will keep her busy why you change her.

Let you baby hold something normally forbidden..mobile phone etc

Hand her something that makes a surprising noise

Play peekaboo with a cloth

Clip a spring loaded clothes peg to her shirt, it'll take her ages to get it off

Hide a little toy under her top

If theres someone to help get them to blow bubbles

Hang a balloon over the change table

be silly, moo like a cow, sing in a squeaky voice, blow rasperberries, make crazy faces.

Now that my 14mth old has finally learned how to roll and stand up nappy changes are a nightmare. For a few days she laughed and though it was a joke but now she screams blue murder when I lie her down. I try giving her snacks / my jewellery / my cell phone...anything exciting but it's not working. Today it took 20mins to get her changed and I ended up dropping a very red-eyed toddler off at her Nana's before arriving to our work AGM late. Far too much stress for both of us.
