We are looking at this now, thought I would comment on the CP in adulthood. I had it at 19 and while it was ncomfortalbe was nothing a pinetarsol bath and some cream couldn't fix. I looked into it and decided not to give it after a long long thought about it. It is better for kids to get it before the age of 12. After that it gets more serious. I seriously looked into getting the CP vaccine for Michaela but since it wears off by age 20 and CP in adults is much worse I decided it would be better to leave her unvaccinated and we'll deal with the pox when they come.

Chicken pox isn't the worst childhood illness, it's one of the ones I can't really remember (I remember having measles and mumps at the same time was pretty horrid) and as Maya said it's kind of like a right of passage.

P.S. I never bothered with the vaccine, I'm of the school of thought that it's one of those things kids just get, a rite of passage even. All three of mine have had them, Maya had a mild dose and was better within 3 days (altho still had spots), the gremlins had chronic doses, so bad that they had them inside their vaginas and in the rims of their eyes. But even tho it seems awful while they have it, the worst of it only lasts a few days, and once they've had it, they've had it. I wouldn't worry about the pox one, especially now your boys have had it. Not all kids get it the same. Keep up with cool bathing and a bit of pamol at night if that will help Mikey sleep. I'm dreading the day mine get the chicken pox, I would much rather they got it younger than they are, as they are both getting older and not had them yet, and I too would choose menz b jab over chicken pox as well, our choice and it is such a huge decision with the menz b saga. Oh you wern't sounding rude at all hun. I know its all over for these guy's thank goodness, but cause we want a big family I am just not sure I could watch anymore of my babies go through this. I guess I would feel the same if one of my kid's got Menzb( I have decided not get that one) if that make scence. it is jsut one of those thing's we all need to come to. Hun, not meaning to sound rude, but if they have/have had it, there is no point getting the vaccine.   Getting it is the best vaccine, if you get my drift. If they are unlucky to get it again, and its highly unlikely, it will not be anywhere near as bad as this time. Yep thats true, I had the jab (as it was routine) and I still got the pox, but not as bad as my sisters did.

It costs around $70 here, and the nurse at my Dr told me "off the record" that it's a bit of a waste of $. It won't stop them getting it, just how bad it is. wow that is heap's $100 weird what your doctor has said I was checking out the net and in OZ it is one of their regular shot's.
As for my boy's yeah it is really bad Alan has one on his eye ball and mikey has them it his ear's and with his history wit hhis ear's I am really worried. Alan also has one up his nose. I am feeling pretty crap about the whole thing if I thought for one min I could have prevented this I so would have. Sorry to hear the boys are so bad Deb, I hope it doesn't last too much longer!
I looked into the vaccine for Ella when I was pregnant with Benjy.
It is expensive, my Dr charges $100 per dose.
They were not overly encouraging about us getting it (although not discouraging either) and told me that they think getting it naturally as a child is generally better as the vaccine's effectiveness isn't tested beyond age 20 and getting it as an adult can be much worse.
I decided to wait and hope they don't get it too severely as children but if the manage to avoid it until they're say 15, I'll look at getting them immunised.

ETA: Dr told me that they like to wait until after the 15 month jabs to give the vaccine.

I had it when I was a baby as it was a routine jab in Oz.

I haven't read into it at all sorry, so you may need to ask the dr's for some reading.

Has anyone done this? when DH took Alan to doc today he said it was the wrost case he had seen in year's and told DH about a vaccine which is $60. we have decided to look into this for our next children I am so at my wit's end my boy's are so ill and there is not alot we can do for them a little annoyed we did not know the vaccine exsisted or we would have looked into in sooner. Anyway has anyone done this or do you think it is worth looking into?
oh and what age is it given.
