Author: Mookey
Subject: 15342
Posted: 21 March 2008 at 10:46pm

This is my washing process:

- Remove excess poo (will just rinse off in the early days, then will just roll of into the toilet when on solids).

- Put in nappy bucket with Nappisan/Next Generation for the day.

- Tip bucket into washing machine. We use Persil sensitive (I avoid powders as DS gets excema), and when we use Next Generation we also use a rinse, but find we don't need to with Nappisan (the nappies were smelling like wee even after soaking if we didn't use the rinse with the Next Generation stuff).

- I was told not to put the outers in the dryer, so hang ours in the hot water cupboard, but put the inners either in the dryer or on the line.

Oh, and I only do one wash cycle on warm. I've never done two. And I think I only washed them once before we used them.

BumGeniuses are great. I'm constantly amazed at how clean they come out despite the state they end up in after use! However, I have found that they don't quite cut the mustard overnight now that Oliver is older, so put him in a disposable, and then a BumGenius overnap. I guess I could invest in more inners and double them, but haven't bothered at this point.

Good luck with your upcoming birth, and have fun with your naps!

Like at least 6 weeks.. and thats doing about 8-9 loads of washing a week. I use to go through a box of normal washing powder in that time but only doing a couple of loads a week before we had Daniel.

I use Eco Store powder and although it is more expensive you use so much less than regular powder! I usually pick it up on special at New World for around $6.99 every couple of months so I stock up! I find it so cost effective that I now use it for all my washing, not just my nappies.

Vic xx

Edited by kiwivic

Plus I manage (somehow?) to pick up lots of $2 off coupons and samples. Probably with various nappy purchases - you should be able to get at least one off their website.

I do one wash and then a rinse too.

    Author: tamiem
Subject: 15342
Posted: 16 March 2008 at 10:57am

Hi everyone,
only 6 weeks to go so getting everything organised for bubs. Just wondering about washing the bum genius nappies: the website says one cold, warm or hot full wash with detergent, then one full hot wash with no detergent. Do you have to do this EACH wash?

Also how many times should I wash them before I start using them? Have already given them 1 cold wash, 1 hot wash and an extra rinse. Is this enough?

Finally, what detergent does everyone use? I bought some EcoStore stuff from the supermarket to use just for nappies, but it's not the cheapest.

Thanks for all your useful advice etc on these forums - I'm a first time mum and often browse these forums for help!
Tamie
