I'm the opposite lol, I WILL be getting my 3 nights at Birthcare come hell or high water - it's the only break I am going to get from Maya and the gremlins to get to know baby.

The article indicated those being discharged early include those being transfered to separate maternity units. It may also be about timing in the day too. If you gave birth at 10am and decided you wanted to go home because you had good support rather than staying in hospital you'd be ready to go by mid afternoon, you wouldn't go home at midnight, or transfer to a maternity hospital at that time.

yeah I agree I don't thin kthe problem is so much people going home early the shortage of M/W if LMC wern't so streched eg having too many woman on their book's then they would have more time for each woman and then the ones who want to go home can with the confidence that their M/W would be available to help.
I think other's are right I think you will find alot of those woman would of been pretty ok to go home anyway like other's have said its a noisy place to be when all you want to do is sleep and focus on your baby.

That is pretty scary. That's exactly what I'm thinking too.

A friend of ours went home after giving birth, they made her wait 4 hours, this was her 4th bubba though and she had a very straight forward delivery. I would have left sooner too but the nurse made me stay until 10am so she could do her rounds 1st and then sort out my discharge. I would've loved to leave within a few hours after giving birth - in fact I think having to go into hospital to be induced, and then having to stay afterwards because Seb wouldn't feed were major contributors to my PND... I HATED hospital. I'd like to know how many of those choose to leave as soon as they could.

ETA: Of course if they're actually forcing people who don't want to leave early that's not on
