Hmm what embarassing situation to pick??

Ok one time we were going to plunket for Capreces check up and figured it was so close I wouldn't need a pram. So in we go and the check up went fine, Jack decided he to play with the toys on the way out so I let him have a play. About 10 mums with little babies arrive for a solids talk, they all sit down and the lady was getting ready to start so I decided it was time to go. Jack did not want to go.

I tried to grab his hand and get him to walk (while holding Caprece). Nope he still wasn't going and was so cross I interupted his game he lay on the ground and started screaming. After a few more attempts to pull him to his feet I had to pick him up all limp and screaming while trying to hold Caprece. I managed to wrestle them both out the door with 10 mums looking at us with those geez control your kid looks.

There have been many more with me either trying to wrestle 2 kids of running with them in the pram fast enough so Jack won't jump out

One of the playcentre mums recognised us by Jacks tantrum

So Katherine you are definately not alone

    Author: HippyMama
Subject: 16671
Posted: 26 April 2008 at 3:03pm

Sounds familiar!

Dropped DH off to work one morning, and had to go to the supermarket on the way back to pick up some prune juice for DD. Since she was being so good, at it was so nice to be out and about (and not in the house!) I thought we'd pop in to Spotlight to see if they had a particular color wool I needed.

BAD IDEA.

The first ten minutes were fine, virtually nobody in the store since it had just opened, so she was happy running around the aisles like a lunatic and pointing at all the pretty things. Except then she got to the loose reels of cotton, and started demolishing the lot one reel at at time - had to try and stop her and explain that "these are not toys to play with, can we put them back please", which seemed to work until she got to a rack of packaged tape measures and started biffing them all on the ground.

I got most of them back on the shelf all the while burning with shame as DD collapsed on the floor clutching another tape measure screaming "NO mama!! Nooo!!" As you can guess there were a few more people around by now giving me those awful sideways glances that say "Why can't you control your child ???"

I go to take it off her and - riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip !! *sigh* Packaging gone and tape measure straight into her mouth - and I wasn't planning to buy anything at all since they didn't have the wool I wanted. Fortunately it was only $2.50!

Lesson learned - never go into Spotlight without a stroller, even after I made it through the checkout with a munted tape measure I ended up having to biff DD over my shoulder in a 'firemans carry' just to get her out of the shop

    Author: Katherine
Subject: 16671
Posted: 25 April 2008 at 11:47pm

Last evening I took Emma Rose to the mall for dinner at the food court. She ate her meal in a reasonably well-behaved manner, but after about 45 minutes I could see she was getting a bit grumpy and tired, so I cleaned her up and headed for the parking lot, a good ten-minute hike away (as Em was walking, not in her stroller, and has to stop and yell "Ooooh!" at every interesting store display she sees, and touch all of the things at her level, and gape at passing strangers, and pick up leaves and bits of rubbish from the floor, and comment on all the other babies/daddies/lollies we happen to walk by).

Anyway, we were just about to exit the mall for the parking lot when she decided she didn't want to hold my hand any more, and when I tried to insist, she threw herself down on her knees and started screaming, "NO!!!!" I picked her up by the underarms, but she went boneless and wouldn't stand up. So I used the ol' colic carry (not so easy with a two-year-old) to get her in position to carry her without dropping her, and started to cross the foyer of the mall to get out the doors. Meanwhile, Em was kicking me and wailing, "DOWN!"

The worst part? All of this took place in front of the Botany Crime Watch information table, where three official-looking men regarded me and my child with suspicion during the whole incident.

We got outside, where her screams intensified, and headed around the side of the building to where I was parked. By this point she was sobbing and writhing in my arms, and all I could think was, "Get to the car, get to the car!" Then, up ahead, I saw the flashing lights of a police car parked in the loading zone near the bus stop, where at least 10 people were waiting for the bus. Not sure why the cop was parked there, but he was standing on the sidewalk next to the police car, just looking around. I shamefacedly passed him, praying he wouldn't think I was abusing my kid, who was still wailing and flailing. I could feel his eyes boring into my back as I slunk toward the car...

I did eventually get her to the car, wrestle her into the carseat, get her home, and put her to bed VERY early -- but man, that was the most humiliating tantrum ever.

So share your shamefaced toddler tantrum moments with me and make me feel better, please!
