I have also read that vinegar isn't good for PUL if used regularly. I use a cap of Dettol once a week and I just find it helps keep the nappies fresh, plus it's nice to know that it's killing any bugs that may be lurking

It's just that I read somewhere that adding a capful of white vinegar to the load (in the fabric conditioner bit) softens all the clothes and stops detergent build-up, so wondered if dettol did something similar...

I use the in-wash stuff as an anti-bac treatment if I run out of tea tree oil.

I just use the regular Dettol - a big bottle of the brown stuff costs about $9 at the supermarket and can usually be found in the toiletries/health care section (or at least that's where it is at my New World). I put 1 or 2 capfuls (depending on half or full load) in the fabric softener section for the normal wash cycle, once a week. It leaves a lovely smell

It makes the fleece rougher as the lint from the natural fibres pills on the fuzzis. But apparently it doesn't affect the performance anyway.

I use half amounts on her clothes too so it makes no difference

If you are concerned about the fleece and lint etc, you can put those ones in a mesh bag and chuck in with the others. I wash all my nappies together on either cold or warm - depending on what mood I'm in . I use detol once or twice a week too (brilliant stuff it is!) I wouldn't bother doing separate loads, you are just making lots of work for yourself. I've never heard of not washing Fuzzis with natural fibres - I wash all my nappies bit together! Pockets & inserts - mixture of PUL, mf, hemp & bamboo! I do a cold rinse cycle then a warm wash - and once a week I'll throw some Dettol in the fabric softener section.

Uh...... I obviously dont read instructions. I uesd to throw everything nappies, clothes etc together but then I decided I liked fabric softener on his clothes (yes naughty) so I wash all the nappies and prefolds together on a warm wash. I used to do hot but thought that was extravagent. All other loads I do cold but I give the nappies a wee treat with warm

Ok I think I need to review the way I do my washing as I now have so many different types of nappies. I generally wash to the manufacturer's instructions but it's resulting in small loads and heaps of them.
Here's what I do currently:

Bum genius and Fuzzies and fleece covers - in a warm/hot wash by themselves as the fuzzis can't be washed with natural fibres.

Prefolds, pul covers - wash with my normal washing load - usually cold.

Bamboozle, bitti boo, hemp inserts - warm/hot wash but by themselves as they can't be washed with fuzzis (see above)
