We have a lock on Isaacs door. Otherwise he gets up and wakes Ethan up, or comes into our room, or tries to turn the tele on, and I'm petrified he will open the front door and go on the road. I was wondering if it'd be worth trying taking the night light out?  If she can't see around her room maybe she'll be more likely to stay snug in bed, rather than be tempted to get up and have a play?  If it helps her go to sleep then you could always switch it off when you go to bed once she's asleep?  Or maybe a bed rail could deter her from climbing out?  ...or wearing a sleeping bag may put her off trying to hop out and wander about, especially if she tries it a few nights in a row!

I tried the gate - Hannah tried climbing over it at 3am and fell. Gave up after that.

Thanks for all the words of wisdom.
We always shut her door - we live in a tiny house, so anything to minimize nose and keep warmth in.
Unfortunately her new room has a slidding door, which she lovingly closes behind her when she goes out.
We have been contemplating the kiddies gate, should dig it up from the garage! (We actually bought it for the dog ages ago!)
She has just about out grown her cot so don't really want to put her back.
Not sure about the use of stickers, don't think she would understand.
Oh well, we will stick to putting her back to bed in silence - sounds like my que right now!

If you don't like the idea of shutting the door you could always get a child safety gate to go across the gap. We closed the door after the first time Ella tried that (she had a wander, chose some books, and wanted a story at 5am!), and then a couple of nights later were able to leave it ajar overnight again.  Worth a shot?  Or maybe back in the cot for a couple more months if this is really getting on top of you?

I agree with Nikki. If you're vigilent and consisitent about putting her back to her own bed asap then she'll soon learn there's no point trying to climb into bed with you. hehehehehe the pitter pattering makes me laugh so much! Hannah is exactly the same.

I can tell ya now, don't let her get into the habit of climbing into bed with you. It is a horrible one to try and break.

So other than that, I shut the door... though she can open it.

And I just make sure I take her back to bed as soon as I hear her. I don't lie in with her... I just am vigilant with putting her back straight away and telling her that she needs to stay in bed until it is light in the morning. My daughter is driving us nuts - not unusual for toddlers I know! We moved her into a bed last month, which she loves, but after a few nights of good sleeping she is now waking up.
Last week it was drastic, we had to lie on her bed with her until she fell asleep then a few times in the night we would be called upon to go back and sleep with her. This was made worse by the fact that she had a slight cold.
The other night I had a "visitor" climb into bed with me and go to sleep, twice (thankfully the 2nd time was in the morning)!
Last night we had pitter pattering around the house - 3 times!! She got out of bed, put on her ugg boots and walked around the house.
We have put a night light in her room, she is warm, well fed and watered, etc.

Any ideas to keep our almost 2 year old mischief in her bed and asleep?
