My Hannah went through a stage of stuttering... it didn't even seem to be related to her being excited or in a hurry... it was seriously just like a record getting stuck on repeat and was like she was trying to stutter - if you get me? It went on for a few months.

Eventually she stopped it... My brother use to stutter really badly as a child. Up and until the age of 10 when he outgrew it. It was due to him taking so much information into his brain and not able to output it fast. (could handle the input and able to interpret it but his speech just couldnt keep up) He is like super intellegent as well but when he got excited it got worse. Breanna started stuttering out of the blue at about the same age. She was a chatterbox by 18 months and spoke really well and then -bang- she started stuttering. Had me really worried and we also went to an SLT and had a variety of checks done (ears etc). But the professionals weren't overly worried and kept reassuring me she would grow out of it. It did improve over time but even now (almost 4.5 yrs) she stutters if she is tired or gets excited. We do tell her to slow down and think about what she wants to say. she stops and then repeats herself clearly with no stutters. So at present I'm sure she will eventually fully outgrow it.

She isn't wound up and over-excited, and she does it ALL day now. Today was a little better, but the last few its been just about everything out of her mouth she's had trouble with. And its in several forms - c-c-c-c-cutting, mmmmmmmmmum, what what what what what's that. And sometimes she just tries so hard and can't get the word out, so gives up and tries something else. Hannah went through this at much the same age. It's nothing to worry about. When the stuttering was particularly bad I would get on eye level with her and ask leading questions really calming, to help her focus - that's all it was, just so much excitement at once. I'd say, Yes Hannah? Jayden developed a really bad stutter over night and had it for about 8 months and I will admit to being really concerned he was almost five at the time. But then one day we noticed he wasn't doing it anymore and we haven't looked back since.

Paris went through it for a while, she'd kinda get stuck while trying to get out a sentence, it was like she started the sentence and got stuck on repeat while she was trying to remember the rest of what she was going to say.   Probably happened about the same age actually i think. We didn't make a big thing of it, just reminded her when she was getting upset about not being able to get her words out.. "ok sweetie, take a minute and slow down, have a think about what you want to say"    It was hard not to fret about it though.
we kinda constantly had the "I I I I I ......" trailing off into nothing.

And well, as you know, Paris is now a chatty chatterbox with no probs getting her words out

Hannah has just out of the blue started to stutter really badly. And its not just the too much going on in her head and can't get it out fast enough type of stuttering. Have been reading on the stuttering nz website, so we are off to the doc next week to go see a SLT. It just breaks my heart listening to her though, as she was speaking so well with noproblems, then overnight this happens. Its so unfair, talking and food are two things you just cannot get away from...

Anyway, feeling a bit better about it all now I have done a bit of reading, but just wondering if anyone elses kids have done this (apparently 5% of preschoolers stutter and most will outgrow it, otherwise treatment is pretty effective), and how they have got on.
