hence why we now have policies in place that no baby is put onto powdered formula until just before they are about to go home - and only so they can transition over to what's going to be used at home.

Unfortunately bugs like that are soooo easily passed around in the NNU unless you're really carefull with handling and hygeine, and staph infections are really quite common - especially sticky eyes etc.     Just think, most are in a nice warm humid environment, their immune systems are really immature and any little thing can grow so nicely in the warm conditions.

Awful isn't it! There was a V & D bug when Ash was in NICU but luckily she didn't catch it. But because the babies that are in there all have very low immunity, if any at all, then it is quite easy to pass bugs to them from the parents/visitors.
