Hey Kirsten, Hows Ashlee? I hope she's better. Is she still coughing?

I've never had a problem with Zoe taking medicine. As soon as the measuring spoon comes out she starts doing a dance. She'll even take the horrible orange one. If it was antibiotics and not pamol, then I would force it, but it's only pamol so really, I'm not all that worried about her having it if she won't.

Thanks for all the ideas! I'll keep them in mind.

Last night was a success... in part! DH gave it to her in a different spoon to what I did earlier in the day, and the little minx took it!!!! Hahaha she took it and then decided it was the yucky med and started flapping her arms around and screwing up her nose! Then we put her to bed and within an hour, she vomited. I think it was more to do with her cough than it was to do with anything else. She coughs to the point of retching! But hasn't ever followed through until last night. I'd try the force way too, if something like mixing it into cordial wouldn't work. Sorry! I'd do the syringe thing like MrsMojo suggested, also hold her nose and tip her head slightly back (so she will have to swallow). Then give her a kiss and cuddle and say "I know, but Mummy needs to give you that medicine today to make you feel all better".

What's more, since she doesn't like it, I wouldn't even bother asking again! I'd get it ready while DH is playing with her and she doesn't know, then you can catch her off guard with lowered defences. I'd try to shove it in a bottle and if that doesn't work I'd put it in a syringe, force her mouth open (slip your thumb and forefinger behind her back molars as if your putting a bit in a horses mouth to keep her from biting you), and get the liquid squirted as far down as you can.  Make sure you have a treat and a drink on hand to give to her immediately afterwards.

Worse comes to worst, if she still manages to spit the medicine out, then the only thing you can do is buy a flavour she does like. 

We buy over the counter pamol because Michaela doesn't like the prescribed ones but if it was antibiotics I'd try everything to get it down before going back to the doc and asking for a different type.

Maya likes the orange one, the gremlins have only ever had strawberry. I'm with Stacey tho, if my kids won't take it, i force it down with a syringe. Mel, yeah she's got a slight fever and I think the only reason why we were given orange was because it was double strength. I think the last time we had pamol from the docs was for her very early jabs and probably a lesser strength.

I thought about the strawberry flavour one, but I just wanted to avoid paying out $20 for a bottle!

The first thing I thought when I put it on the spoon was 'oh no, I really didn't like this one when I was younger' but I didn't think she wouldn't take it!

I'll try the jellybean thing, but I don't know that she really would understand that just yet. She knows that putting cream on her butt makes her rash "all better", so I guess it's just a matter of wording.

HAHA I just heard DH say 'do you want some medicine?' and she goes 'no!'. I'm not worried about her not having any, I just thought there might be a way that we could get it into her if it's going to make her feel better. The orange must be nasty because it is a no go here as well. Sam will not take it - no amount of bribery will work!
We ended up going to the chemist and buying the same strength Strawberry Panadol in the end. OK so not from my parenting but from my childhood.... I remember my mum had some of this gross pamol stuff and we hated it. She ended up keeping a little bag of jellybeans in the cupboard and if we had the pamol we got to have a jellybean (yes, one) to 'get rid of the yucky taste'. Would Ashlee understand that? Does she actually need the Pamol? Does she have a fever at the moment? If she doesn't just leave it for now.

I'm afraid that the orange one is not a favourite in our house either. Make sure next time you ask for the Raspberry flavour.

My only hint is get a syringe, stick in the side of her mouth and squirt.

Ugh. Took Ashlee to the doctors this afternoon and he prescribed us some paracetamol (just waiting for THAT took longer than the doctors visit and it wasn't even busy!!!!!!). I was worried about her breathing last night and this morning she sounded wheezy, but things were fine and she's just got a common cold.

Anyway, it's the double strength orange paracetamol and Ashlee's never had that one before. Got it home and measured it out and she took one tiny taste, screwed up her nose and said 'NO! Table' and pointed me out the door to put the undrunk medicine spoon on the table away from her.

So fellow mamas, who's got a tip for getting that down them?! I tried bribing, I pretended to take some then offered it to her, I even mixed it with a teeeeeny bit of water to make it more fluid and like 'juice' but she wouldn't have any more than a sip of that either. This is the kid that will eat anything. She just seems to be picky about the flavour of her medicine. *rolls eyes*
