Linzy does your back seat have a headrest? I had the same mirror and got so annoyed with it that I ended up just wedging it between the seat and the headrest facing Sam. It meant that at lights etc i could turn around and see what she was doing. It made life much easier!

We turned Sam not long ago. I have a mirror that I put next to the rear vision mirror, it suctions to the window but also came with a part to attach it to the visor, so I have my mirror to look outside behind me and one to look at her, not sure what i'm going to do with the next one yet!!

We have a station wagon too, we did have a mirror in front of him when he was little, it velcroed onto the seat, but once he got bigger he kept kicking it off.
I can't see him when I'm driving but I can generally tell by talking to him, singing etc that he's okay and if he doesn't respond chances are he's nodded off.
He's on the passenger side of the car so I can see by turning around, how he's sitting and the position of his head, if he is asleep.
Also, because I have an older daughter, she will often tell me (in a nice loud voice, doh!) So CaraMel can you see Benjy when you are driving? If so how? I like to be able to see what Jack is doing, if he is asleep etc. We have a mirror on a bendy extendable arm but the suction cup comes off the window. We turned Daniel around a couple of weeks ago. He's 10kg and it was just getting awkward as hell getting him out. We just turned Ella around, it was getting to the stage where she her feet were touching the end of the seat and on ours it said to turn it around from 9kg and she is nearly 11 kgs now and has been walking for a while, so we figured it was safe. She now thinks it is soooo funny watching us while we drive.

Heheh, we just turned Benjy around last weekend! (He's 22 months)
Safety experts recommend keeping them rear facing as long as they fit safely in the seat that way because if you were in an accident they are much better protected. Particularly their wee heads, necks and spines.
I'd leave him if it were me, but plenty of people do turn them around 1 year of age.

I turned ours around at 11.5 months, Leah had been walking for a month so we figured if she was strong enough to walk then she would be ok, she loves going forwards.

I also felt that we hadn't had any accidents up till that time so what would the chances be of having one as soon as I turned her seat around? (and we still haven't had one - touching everything wood I can see as i write this!!)

Our car seat says that Jack needs to be 1yr and 10.1kg and 85cm before we can turn the seat to forward facing. The website for the manufacturer says that it is 85cm as that is the length of the test dummy they used. I want to wait till he is 85cm as per the manufactureres instructions but he is only about 76cm so it will be 6mths easy before he is long enough.

A friend of Jack's who is 2 days younger has the same seat and she has been forward facing since well before 1yr and she is probably approx. the same weight and length as Jack.

I don't like not being able to see him and the mirror we use keeps falling off the window. So I want to turn him round but am worried about doing so against the instructions.
