NZ-made pocket nappies that I've tried & liked are Foxybots & Honechild (their smalls are really tiny so I don't think would have any trouble fitting a newborn). I also really like Designer Bums hemp fitted nappies for overnight - they're quite bulky but are super-absorbent for when you need long-distance wear (12hrs+) and bulk doesn't really matter. Other nappies I've tried & liked are Fuzzi Bunz (USA-made) and Itti Bitti D'lish (Australian-made).

That would depend on the baby, Ladybird. I'm an advocate for prefolds and covers. They are cheaper and involve less washing than pocket nappies because you don't have to wash the cover at each nappy change (unless it's got poo on it). Well, I am also a newbie and I purchased a real mix of nappies to see what worked and what didn't. Although I only started when he was about 6 months so a little different. I love my pockets and am finding them heaps easier then I thought they would be.

I have had no leaks at all so am stoked. I am using Drybees, Foxybots,BumGenius and Fuzzi's. I had one peapod for Kaleb and it fit him nicely. Didn't buy more as other naps fit better.
I agree with the suggestions about trying more than one type though as all babies are different.

You could consider hiring a hire kit for the first few weeks and then spend your money on some small/mediums once you know what suits bubs.

There are heaps of different pocket nappy brands ~ bumGenius! one size rate quite highly and seen popular. We have loads of different brands on our site - pays to purchase a couple of different brands and try them out. Wigglebums are my personal fav pocket.

With the Peapods, apparently they generally work quite well on chubby babies, and very badly on skinny ones, so that might help you decide whether to use them or not when bubs is here. good kiwi made nappies are an excellent choice. some of my faves are wigglebums - she has some excellent prints and fabric choices, joel eze pockets and my new favourite, cause they are the only small nappies that i havent had a leak with my baby from, is    baby harmony.
also if you are after one size pockets yoyo nappies are another great kiwi made nappy. they come in great colours and have this cool option on their site where you can design your own nappies...

My personal favourite are bum genius, they just never ever leak, and my new favourite cos they are just so damn cute and also very reliable is the bitty delish, it isn't a pocket nappy but they do have a snap in option so that you can seperate the nappy for drying and you can buy a booster for extra absorbency.
Neither of those are made in NZ though.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted your valued opinions about MCNs. I am due to have my first child at the end of December/beginning of January, and I am already starting to buy baby stuff....

I brought a couple of the bamboo PeaPods yesterday, as the Baby Factory has a good deal with them at the moment. However, I have read some not so favourable reviews about them. Nor did I realise yesterday that PeaPods are an Australian company, and they are manufactured in China.

I would much prefer to support a NZ company that makes its product in NZ.

I am mainly wanting to go for pocket MCNs, not AIOs.

Any opinions/recommendations would be fantastic.
