He didn't have reflux but did have lots of problems swallowing food, kept choking on it. He ended up seeing a specialist. I can't remember exactly what was wrong, but they had to do some sort of exercises with him and that solved the problem. He now eats anything and everything with no problems whatsoever

She also has many food intolerances.
She refused to eat off a spoon from 9 months, and happily ate her food as finger food- pieces of cooked brocolii, carrot, other vege etc, and things like the aria farm lamb strips.

So,..I think u should definalty take him to the Dr, and of u not happy with what they say ask for a paed referral,..there are other things that could be the problem. I hope u get some answers soon!

I don't know what to suggest to you other than maybe take a trip to the docs and see if there really is any medical reason why he's doing that so at least that can be found as the cause or at least ruled out.

    Author: Ruby
Subject: 18893
Posted: 06 July 2008 at 3:41pm

My 13 month old was never diagnosed but I believe he had silent reflux ever since he was born (he also has allergies).

He would excessively swallow and dribble, he'd then get into very obvious difficulty trying to swallow and would gasp for air and choke and gag sometimes it was relieved but choking up very very thick mucousy vomit.

It wasn't continuous and seemed to abate after he started purees at 6 months old. It still happens every now and then at 13 months old.

He is having real difficulty with solids though. He loves to eat and loves purees and mashed food but finds finger food really hard, I feel like at 13 months old finger foods should be alright for him but he chokes and vomits and spits most pieces out. He chokes like crazy if I try to feed him crackers, meat and any hard fruit like apples he just chews up into little little pieces and then spits out rather than swallows, he won't eat any vege unless it is pureed.

Could this be connected to relux? Could he be damaged from the reflux or just a bit funny about things going up and down his throat after spending most of his life reguritating stuff?
