When I was growing up in Bangladesh (Majority Muslim) we had a public holiday for each of the major religions there. So we had Xmas Off, Diwali Durga Puja (Hindu) Off, Buddha's Birthday Off and ofcourse all Muslim holidays off. I thought there was no better way to show respect to other religions.

In other countries they dont have that, but thats cool I dont think that that makes a country racist! I take a day off (If I want too) for Eid and Diwali each year as I want DD to know that this is a special day.

I think people need to stop focusing soo much on these kinda things. For God sake I hate when people fight over religion. I HATE IT!!

Like everyone else has said, how ridiculous! Seems bizarre that they're even worrying about it - maybe it's just where I've worked but I've been in childcare for 8 years and I've never seen any racist behaviour from preschoolers.

So what about adults who don't like particular kinds of foods, are they racist too? Exactly fleury. In a multi-cultural country that was originally predonimantly christian - they now can't recognise their own beliefs in some areas. Shocking isn't it.

Edited to say - don't get me wrong, I'm not at all racist, I just don't agree with a lot of the rules that have been made over there.

Yep - ridiculous!!

The UK has gone completely nuts over some of this stuff. Do you know in some counties they are not even allowed to refer to 'Christmas' for fear of upsetting some religions - they have to call Christmas 'Winter Holidays'
And...in some schools they are not allowed to recognise Christian celebrations such as Easter - but they HAVE to recgonise muslim (and other religions) festivals.

The comments below are actually mostly funny! I do wonder if the Telegraph has blown it out of proportion though. This bit actually concerns me more: "It alerts playgroup leaders that even babies can not be ignored in the drive to root out prejudice as they can "recognise different people in their lives"." that makes me somewhat nervous. Are they going to try to get all children to treat all adults/other people the same? What about perverted people you feel uncomfortable around? What about preferring your parent over your care provider? That is stupid, spicey foods take a while to get the taste for them. i'm not calling my children rasists if they don't like something from overseas that is spicey - it is probably too hot for them.
