Alianasmummy, I have heard that about the sun as well. I have just started washing Jack's with clothes etc at 40C. I forgot to say that I wash at 40c and I don't have any probs with germs and rashes. Infact that's the funny thing since Rohann had a viral rash 4 weeks ago she's been having dreadful rash/excema issues (is now on antihistimine, as well as all the vaious creams and waiting to see paed/dermatologist) over most of her body (face and torso being worse), but her nappy area is perfect!!! Front loader here as well, I do the full wash for the nappies and wash them seperately, our clothes mostly just go on a quick wash. Wash about every 3 days as I have quite a big stash of nappies. Wash at 40 degrees with ecostore, never use anything else and sometimes set to rinse+ (when I remember). Do pretty much what everyone else on here does, except I wash nappies only about every 3/4 days (only do nappies only as that many days worth is a full load). I do the occasional hot wash (maybe once a month? and then only if K's had a stomach upset or something) but otherwise it is always in cold water.

None of the people I know personally who use pocket nappies wash at 60c, most people I know wash on cold or warm (40c). The reason I ask is that as I wash my nappies on a 60C wash it takes about 2hrs so it's a pain to do it more often than every 2nd day (I do it every 3days now) but it means I need more nappies. I do 60C because that apparently kills any bacteria, I also put some tea tree oil in the prewash and do an 'intensive rinse'

I want move to pockets (or mainly pockets) but can't afford too many so am wondering whether to wash with clothes (or on a clothes cycle at 40C) as this only takes about an hour. I do a dedicated nappy wash every 1-2 days. I do a cold rinse cycle first, then a warm wash with Eco Store powder. I do a rinse cycle of just naps first, then chuck in all the other clothes and do a full cold wash with an extra rinse at the end (its a setting on my machine :) ) and use ecostore powder. Use dettol prob once a week :D

I have a front loader and I wash Rohann's nappies seperately on the longest wash that has a pre-wash (you are supposed to put powder in for that but I don't as I use it as a rinse cylce) built into the setting, and once this is finished I do another rinse. I use eco store powder with some dettol in wash stuff. All Leahs nappies and clothes go in together and I put some dettol rinse in the last cycle, when the new baby comes and is in cloth I will probably be doing just a nap wash one day, and clothes the next! Also I only wash in cold water, and do no extra rinses.

I do a spin cycle with rinse first just to make sure the bulk of the floaties are gone. Then throw in the other clothes and do a normal warm or cold wash with Ecostore washing powder and dettol sanitising laundry rinse.

Oh, and I probably wash nappies every 2 to 3 days. Depends on when the bucket gets full

Am interested to know how you ladies wash your nappies. I do a specific nappy load every 3 days at 60C (told DH I had to have a front loader that did hot washes if we were using MCNs )
