Hi, I have good news and not-so-good news about IUI. I had 4 rounds of IUI that were unsuccessful, but then first round of IVF worked and we now have a lovely 2yo son.

Friend I met through inferftility support group had several unsuccessful rounds of IVF, but then her first go at IUI worked, and she now has a daughter!

Well I guess it's time to get my hopes up!
I have had blood test and they comfirmed that I am pregnant!
I know it is still very early days and I am still being carefull, but I just thought Id post on here and let anyone else that is thinking about IUI know that it can work first time! here is to a sticky 8 months!

hi ya,
I am trying really hard not to get my hopes up. the chances of IUI working are only about 22% so not expecting it to work the first time, but still taking it easy, not drinking coffee and eating like a preganant woman should. its hard cause Im not preganant but if its going to help, Ill do what ever it takes

Hey everyone,
First IUI done today! what a non event that was, all over and done with in no time flat, must admit though I have spent the afternoon on the couch, dont want to over do it! worse thing about it was all the blood tests, my poor arm!
I guess we will know in a couple of weeks if it worked or not, Ill keep you posted. :c)

I'm thinking of doing IUI early next year too so would be great to hear your results. I was going to skip IUI and go straight for IVF but I don't think we'll be able to afford IVF for awhile and so I guess this is the next best thing, even if the odds are a lot lower. The doc did suggest taking something to make me produce more eggs but didn't say if it would be clomid or injections, is that something that comes down to personal choice and affordability?

I am doing the IUI totally naturally, no drugs at all just blood test to figger out when to do it. sounds like everyone else has had some drugs of some sort, Im a bit worried now!!!

As for the ICIS, Yep, you will need time off! I did ICIS last year (privatly funded too)and the day of collection I was in alot of pain and know that I couldnt have gone back to work if I had tried! (Im a Nanny) I came home and slept on the couch! the 2nd day I was still a little tender but as long as your not doing anything to physical you should be ok, the clinic recomended 2 days off. The rest of it was OK, injections are not that bad once you have done the first one! good luck

hi there

we have had two BFN with IUI ver the past two months. Interestingly enough they also talked about our 'next cycle' while we were having the first. We have male fertility issues too, but my friend had IUI with donor and she has a lovely wee boy.

3 days after the 2nd IUI, we went back to see the doc, who said that i hadnt     responded well to the clomiphene and that DHs sample hadnt been of good quality or quantity. Interestingly enough they didnt stop the procedure ... which annoyed me and i started to wonder if it was a money thing for them as we paid for both the cycles.

we are having ICSI next month, privately funded now, so im worried about the injections, stress levels and whether i will be up to work after the egg collection.

anyone have any advice? im a teacher and wondering if i need to organise some time off ...

Yay! Im not alone!!!! what are your reasions for IUI?? if you dont mind me asking! we have male factor so are trying IUI with donor sperm. they keep telling us that they success rates arnt high but they are higher with donor than with my partners so we have to give it a try.

I had my first IUI on monday - so im keen to share this journey check how you are getting on.

It was bizarre actually i was on a course - nipped out at lunch time - back again in time for the afternoon session - wouldve been very funny watching the whole process from above.

I would love to hear some positives around IUI because even the doctor was pretty negative - to the extent of booking me in for next month!! as if it wasn't going to work. I guess mentally its good not to pin all ones hopes on this.

So looking forward to hearing how you are getting on.

thanks for answering for me ladies, My head has been all over the place, we are starting the IUI process with my first blood test yesterday and another due on Tuesday. IUI is still awhile away yet but just the fact that I know it will be this month is scary! The plus side is that I dont need to take any drugs with it. ICSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection and this is from the Fertility Associates website:
ICSI is a variation of IVF. Instead of the sperm and eggs being mixed in a test tube, a single sperm is injected into each mature egg. ICISis when they inject the sperm (once tail chopped off) via a needle directly into the eggs that get removed a few days earleir around ovulation
time. they are then left to grow and divide for a few days and the quality ones go back. depending on the quality, one or two may be put back and any others frozen ... well thats my understanding. we are about to have our first cycle in November, very similar to IVF with the drug stimulation. please fill in any gaps someone.

we had 2 unsuccessful cycle on clomiphene and IUI. I had no side effects at all. We had to pay $1075 for scanning and the procedure and then pay for each blood test which where between $22 - $36 each day for 5 - 7 days. I didnt realise that you could take the injections with this treatment. My DP has a very low sperm count. I am also hoping to start IUI soon but using donor sperm as DF count was too low, we tried ICIS and it didnt work for us so have decided to give this a try. looking forward to following eveone elses stories and hoping for lots of success stories

Hi Itchyfeet, I had the Lipiodol flush treatment in June which is effective for 6mths, hence the wait for IUI. I am planning on doing my first cycle in Nov. Good luck with your cycle.

I think that's per injection. But I don't know how many each individual needs each time. Have you been to the specialist privately to get a plan specific to your needs, rather than waiting? I realise it's not cheap, but may save you a lot of unnecessary worry. It's probably the only way you'll know definitely what it may cost you. For myself, I can't have the stimulation drugs or Clomid, so I never went into the detailed costs, just have the cost guide I gave me, but like anything related to pregnancy, they can only give you the "typical" costs. We're budgeting $1200 per cycle because I will need a lot of monitoring in the initial stages of pregnancy, even without the stimulation.

ETA It's quite stressful knowing you can spend this kind of money without a positive outcome, but I guess we all want the best chance we can get. Good luck.

Itchyfeet, do you know if that cost for injectibles is per injection? Yikes it's getting expensive if it is.

I am probably only going to do 3-4 IUI cycles so really want to give it the best chance. I am considering doing the IUI with the daily stimulating injections - sorry not sure what it's called. Fert + in Auckland are significantly cheaper: $750 for an IUI cycle, including all monitoring - I've typically had 5 x daily blood tests coming up to ov, and two or three scans, all included in the $750. I've also twice had the trigger injection - no extra cost, so the only additional thing has been the cost of clomid - $15 for three months. Becuase of DH's low sperm count we've been doubling up - having a sample frozen the week before, then combining that with a fresh one on the day; the freezing and thawing costs an extra $120. Oh one other thing - if you have the ovidrel trigger injection you have to use progesterone pessaries until either a neg prg test, or 12 weeks into preg - $20 for a box of 30, and I was on 6 a day, so 1 box = 5 days = 3 boxes / $60 required until prg test.

I obviously want to do my best to get a BFP so my questions are,

How much does it cost for IUI with Clomid?
How much does it cost for IUI with injectibles?
Anyone done IUI with injectibles, any advice?

I know the success rate for IUI with injectibles is higher but so is the cost.
