No trouble getting pregnant but have now had 3 miscarriages. My phase is 8 days. I have heard B6 is good, but too much can be harmful so start with 50mg and increase by 50mg each cycle until you see a lengthening. I have also read that acupuncture can help but havent tried it yet. I was given progesterone tablets with my last preg but lost it anyway. Sorry not trying to be a bummer, just in the same boat and hoping to find something that will work.
Chelle please let us know if the acupuncture works!

I've read heaps about it being a problem but both the fertility specialist and the naturopath didn't think it was a biggie.

    Author: mum799
Subject: 21621
Posted: 12 October 2008 at 3:47pm

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone else out there is having trouble with Luteal Phase Defect. I have just worked out that this is what is happening with me as well as PCOS. I am currently waiting for my appt at the hospital and have been charting mad since Jan when we finally admitted to ourselves that it wasn't gonna happen naturally for us.

For those who don't know what a Luteal Phase Defect is, I will try to explain.

After the follicle on the ovary releases the egg the folicle becomes a Corpus Lupeum. During a normal menstrual cycle, the luteal phase will begin after ovulation and last until your period starts. It is during this time that the corpus luteum releases progesterone, getting the endometrial lining ready for implantation. However, women who are affected by LPD are either unable to produce enough progesterone during the luteal phase or the endometrium does not respond appropriately to the progesterone stimulation. The end result is that the endometrial lining is not sufficiently prepared for implantation. The way you tell is your luteal phase will be way to short. Apparently between 10-12 days is low and under 10 days is a LPD.

Since Jan my LP (letual phase) has been between 5 and 11 days. Mind you I have only ovulated 4 months out of 9 since then

I'm gonna use this post as a way to record my journey from now on. If anyone else wants to join in you are very welcome.
