I agree with what everyone has said re the D&C procedure. I found the worst part was not having a service of some kind to grieve and let go IYKWIM. I was still crying 2 months after the fact at stupid things that made me think of my wee angel.

Thanks Nellybelly. Half of my health professionals seem pretty sure its a blighted ovum while the other half are more positive. I guess only time will tell.

I've been doing a lot of reading and it seems there are some factors that make scanning less accurate such as a retroverted uterus (on a different angle from usual), a large amount of abdominal fat, scarring in the uterus, fibroids and the skill and experience of the sonographer. Oh Helen big big to you and fingers crossed. I haven't read your other posts recently but I know you have had a hard year so I'm hoping it's just an early scan that has given an inconclusive result and that your next one will be really good! I really hope you don't need a D&C at all.

VB - I suffered from a Blighted Ovum in July and had a D&C also. For me it was exactly like the previous posts, all over and done with reasonably quickly, a bit of cramping for a few days afterwards. We went off to Taupo for a couple days R&R afterwards and I attempted to take it easy...

I think the hardest part of the process was the three weeks of not knowing whether pg was viable or not...my levels continued to increase up to 21,000 then they buttoned off at what should have been about 9 weeks, from there I started to naturally miscarry. I decided to have the D&C to give myself the best possible start TTC all over again.

If you need anyone to talk too, please dont hesitate to PM me...it can sometimes be helpful to chat to someone who has been there.

Its been a really rough year for you chick and I am sending lots of positve vibes and thoughts your way. One day you will be blessed with the most precious bundle...just like you deserve!

You will only be there for a few hours, it just felt like AF afterwards... spent a few days curled up on the sofa with wheatie bag and a packet of nurofen.

I hope the sonographer was wrong hun and this little bean is sticky and healthy and staying right where it should!

Hi VB, read your post in the pregnancy thread so hoping that the sonoghaper was wrong and that it still might be viable.

Mum2paris - you have explained exactly what happens and honestly i would have written it no different. I took a couple of days off work and glad i did cos it did hurt to walk a little the next day.

VB if you do have to go through this, buy yourself some nice pj's to snuggle up in, makes you feel that little bit better!

You go under a general anaesthetic, the whole procedure takes about 15 mins but it takes a bit for you to come out from general anaesthetic hence it does take a bit longer.

I was totally freaked out by the whole idea as i'd never been under anaesthetic before and was freaking out. but really it wasn't that bad. i was crying on and off during the day. i had to get there by 8am and have nothing since midnight the night before. and they weren't sure when the theatre would be free, so eventually i finally got wheeled in at about 2pm and was ready to knaw my arm off by then. I think it hit once they went to wheel me off to theatre what was going to happen. I felt a bit groggy when i woke up, i was taken off to a day unit for a couple of hours until they felt i was ok to go. You feel a bit crampy and sore down there for a few days and i found i was reallllly sleepyish for a couple of days. i had it on the monday and went back to work on the saturday which was probably a bit too soon for me.
