Dom self weaned off his afternoon bottle just after Isobelle arrived and has started taking 50mls less for his morning and evening bottles. I have started moving bottle time closer to his meal time so that he is still feeling full and doesn't want as much. It also means that it is further away from his bedtime and makes the bottle less of a sleep association. That's exactly what we did with Caitlin's dummy when she was about 18mths.

We're in the process of phasing the bottle out here.
She only has 1 in the morning and 1 before bed. We started with 200mls in both and have slowly reduced them down to 120mls with no complaints. I'm hoping that when we get to 50mls we'll just explain to her that there's no more milk for the bottles (but will still offer it in a cup just before bed).
That's how we're dealing with it and works ok so far.

If you really don't like it you could always try a variation of the dummy fairy, only the bottle fairy. Get or make a special looking bag, explain that he is a big boy now and doesn't need a bottle and that if he wants to he can put his bottle in the special bag and the bottle fairy will come over night and take the bottle to give to a little baby who needs one. And for being such a lovely boy, giving his bottle to the baby, the fairy will leave a special present for him. You will probably still have a tough few nights as he get used to not having his bottle but he will come right. My son is just about to turn 2 and we are going to have to start thinking about when to phase out bottles as well. i have a two year old son who continually takes his bottles everywhere and is always asking for it. he doesnt have it at daycare and never asks for it there. its the only way that i can get him to have a day sleep if he has his bottle with him and same at night.... he packs a big mental if he hasnt got it... i have tried bottle fairy, cups, sipper bottles... am i asking for too much for him not to want a bottle anymore?
