Its so great to get a clear answer about it and good to know that the dairy and lactose intolerances are unrelated. Good luck with your wee man.
Keep track of everything you eat and then make notes if your daughter is having a reaction. You may start to see a trend develop. Just be aware that some reactions can take a day or two.
About a quarter of reflux babies have problems with dairy, so it is definately worth a try to eliminate it from your diet.
I would also recommend the crying over spilt milk website. It is fantastic.

    Author: Mum2L
Subject: 24061
Posted: 27 January 2009 at 10:08pm

I don't think you will know for sure until she is old enough to have the tests done.

My son Lucian has a suspected dairy allergy, that he has inherited from me. I was eating dairy during my pregnancy, as the hormones were masking my allergic reaction (itchy hives all over my body).

I still continued eating dairy for a couple of weeks after I had him. He was diagnosed with reflux, and I immediately cut the dairy out my diet, as I was starting to react again. His spilling has decreased dramatically, and is virtually non-exsistant now.

My GP and a paed told me to wait till Lucian is a year old before getting tests done, just to confirm it.

If she has a dairy intolerance, a lactose-free formula won't make a difference (as it is made from cow's milk), unless she is also intolerant to lactose. For me, I can easily tolerate lactose in food, but am allergic to specific proteins in cow's milk.

Hopefully you can get some answers soon.

I would also highly recommend the Crying Over Spilt Milk website for info on reflux and food allergies: Linky

    Author: busyissy
Subject: 24061
Posted: 27 January 2009 at 12:14pm

My little girl, Isobelle, has reflux and lately I have been beginning to suspect that there is something more there too. I have taken dairy out of my diet and think that her spilling has decreased.
My question is how do I know for sure if she has a dairy or any other food intolerance? I mean other than from my observations. My doctor said that they don't do allergy tests on babies as young as Isobelle.
I am supplement feeding (have to as she can't keep enough breastmilk down) so I want to make sure that I have my diet right and that I have her on the right formula. Currently, we are using the Karicare HA AR which we have to mail order but I have seen a new formula in Foodtown, Karicare De-Lact and I'm wondering if I should try that? Has anyone else used it before?
