I use ecobots, bambino mio (covers and prefolds) and a selection of pockets and AIO's on my two week old.
Personally so far I find that the prefolds and covers are best closley followed by the AIO's for a newborn. I find the pockets quite bulky at the moment but im sure he will grow into them.

The other thing you could do is buy a few preloved nappies off Trade Me (or join The Nappy Network). Hi I use prefolds and covers, and I find them great, the only time they leaked was when I needed to use a bigger prefold, now my little 4 mth old has a extremly big bum but i think he'll grow into it. The poskets I like are the old style Fuzzi's. They fit my boy great. I paid just over $200 18 months ago for 13 fuzzi's (I got a few second hand from Honey Child) and they are still going strong.

I know there is a bit of an Itti hype going on at the moment but I am not buying into them and will wait to see how popular they are in say 6 months and then maybe try one.

Real Nappies & Ecobots are both prefolds & covers (where an absorbent pad is laid in a waterproof cover). Other nappy systems are fitteds & covers (where the whole nappy is absorbent, with a seperate cover), all-in-ones (AIOs) where the nappy has a waterproof cover & absorbent core all sewn together so you only put on one piece and pocket nappies which are similar to AIOs but the absorbent fabrics are removed for washing and fit into a pocket between the waterproof & stay-dry lining so you can add more or less absobency as you need.

If you've never used cloth nappies before you might like to buy a small selection to try out on your baby to see what system/brand suits you & your baby best, or even try a hire kit. There are so many different types of modern cloth nappies out there and as every baby is a different shape what suits one might not suit another.

Personally, I prefer a pocket nappy or an AIO as they're easy to use without being too bulky. My favourite brands are Honeychild (pocket) & Itti Bitti D'lish sewn-in (AIO).
