Jazzy, I worked out a rough estimate of about $1000 per year for disposies, plus the rubbish bin per year $260 (v $45 for council bags)

I've got flats in covers so I have to soak them but I used nappysan in my washes anyway. But I have bought Eco powder (more expensive) for my couple MCN's but I can't wait to have all MCN's

With the nappy. Some come in a one size fits all where you just adjust it as the baby grows and others come in set size ranges.

How many depends on how heavy a wetter the baby is and how often they do pooey nappies when they're a bit older. My DD has perfected the art of waiting for a new nappy and then pooing into it straight away But generally they last about 3 hours before needing a change for the daytime.

From memory I started with 8 Bum Genius and 6 small fuzzibunz and then moved up to 12 Bum Genius, 3 tots bots bamboozles, a bitti boo and a bitti d'lish plus assorted boosters and we have more than enough nappies to do a wash every alternate day. We do disposables at night but that's due to lazyness really.

I think that you would save a bit on the Cloth for one baby but heaps for the subsequent ones. The initial outlay is high but personally I've found it worth it.

Really interesting comments, I have never used these systems, for my next 1 I am looking at going with one or several, lol. As they cost a bit it is great to hear all the pros & cons cause at the end of the day you are paying good money for these products & want one that will go the distance. I don't want one that will not last or has to be sent back, if its not good enough in the first place its not good enough.

Has anyone worked out how much they would spend on a complete system that will last till toilet training has been completed, verses disposables?

How many would you need also & do you have to get different sizes? I 100% agree with you Bobbie. That's how I made my decision when I bought my batch of nappies. I decided which ones I liked then read through 100s of posts on here and TNN reading the pros and cons and honest thoughts of people who actually use the product. I just want to jump in here to say that I really appreciate feedback on a public forum both positive and negative. Especially on something requiring as much $$ up front as a cloth nappy system.

That's the beauty of being on here rather than somewhere that for example censors posts because the business behind the forum sells disposables (not naming any names heehee).

If I thought I was only ever going to hear the good on this thread then I'd probably take the opinions with a grain of salt.

I wonder if the elastic issue with BG is something to do with dryers. We don't have one so maybe that helps with life expectancy. I'll be pretty p'od if my V2 all die before baby number 2 comes along. If they are within the warranty they should be replaced. We don't stock them any more since the price hike, but our supplier in Australia replaced all our customers faulty version 2 returns no problem . Thanks for all the help! I've made contact with the business I purchased the nappies from, and a new lady has taken it over since we bought them, but I've just got to call her (when I have time) and have a chat about what we can do.

I would go by the warranty offered on the product and gage quality from that. I.e we offer a 1 year warranty on all workmanship. The consumer act covers you over stuff that doesn't last it's intended purpose (or something along those lines, please forgive the tired preggy brain! lol)
So for something like a nappy that is expected to be used a lot I too would be really peeved if it only lasted 9 months. I would suggest returning to the place you bought them and discuss with them especially as it is a well known issue.

There is no problem - everyone is entitled to have an opinion

It was more the "I wouldn't go with Itti's" comment. I can't be bothered going through the issues of returning it, it still works fine its just come off a bit. Any experience I've had with returning nappies always ends up costing me. No 1 poster asked which nappies lasted well and I told her of my experience how is me mentioning my problems any different from poster number one mentioning hers? We are happy to discuss any issues with any customer, we just ask that you contact us, rather than talk others out of buying them on a public forum because of your experiences.

I'm surprised to hear that you and your friend have had issues with your Itti Bittis. I frequent a few cloth nappy boards and this is the first I've heard of any quality issues. I had one mini-booster which the stitching had missed the side of the fabric slightly but I contacted Rachel at Tweedle (where I'd bought it from) and she replaced it without any questions. The snap in nappies must be unsnapped for washing .. i hope your friend does this?

Also if your sewn in booster has come off it may be covered under warranty. Not all of Itti bitti's have these issues, but you have to expect the odd flaw in a product. It is ineveitable. I am happy for you to contact us if you have any problems.

I wouldn't go with ittis, one of my sewn in boosters has come half off and a friend has found a few of her snap ins have ripped in places. She got hers a good year ago used for one baby. My ripped one has probably only been washed 10 times.

I think berry plush seem to last really well, the fit just doesn't work for us. My Fuzzis died after 18mths of use with being washed everyday and my new ones I am not very impressed with. I would try Honeychild if you like that style. II am loving my ecobubs at the moment but I guess time will tell. I have fuzzis and they are coming up to 3 years old this Winter. Because I don't have a heap of them, they have done two kids (one baby, two toddlers) very frequently. When both of the kids were in them, they were being washed twice every three days. Some of the elastic around the back is stretching, but they still fit well. The area around a couple of the snaps is starting to wear, i.e. there is a small "ladder" there. I have had my Itti bittis for 8mths now and they are going strong, still in perfect condition and they really wash up sooo well.
I also have a little buttons premium pocket that is used constantly and is still like brand new.

I put this in the other post too but my BGs V2's are a year old now and have lasted really well so far.

But my new favourite are totsbots with a wool soaker on the top or bitti boos (the fitted bitti's) with a soaker. But I haven't used the bitti's long enough to comment on their stay in power.

My fuzzis were only in use for 4 months as part of a larger stash and I suspect that the domes on some of them are about to go so I don't recommend them (these are the older fuzzis though). They were the USA made ones not the Mexico disaster.

I had the old-style Fuzzi Bunz and they were fantastic. We used them for a year on my son and when we sold them on (because he'd outgrown them) they looked as good as new and we were able to get over half of our money back to go towards the next size! There was no colour fade, the poppers & elastic were still strong and the fleece still thick & white.

I've had my Itti Bitti D'lish for over 6mths and they look and feel as good as new too. I've been using the large on my son and plan to keep them to use on our new baby (due soon!).

I'd say go for something with poppers rather than velcro as they seem to wear better and look nicer longer. I have found that the tots bots bamboozles have lasted the best. my son is over a year now and they are just like they were when we got them.

So as you may have read, the elastic on our BG's is going... I'm extremely disappointed as we didn't mind paying for expensive nappies thinking that they were going to last... not just Tessa but our next kid/s also.

Now 9 mths on.... grrrrrr!!!!!!
I'm trying to get our $ back or replacements but I turned to trusty google and see this is a fairly common problem in America - with tutorials on how to replace the elastic etc in a range of different nappies. Obviously I don't want to spend $$$ on nice nappies and then have to turn around 9 mths later and FIX them but needs must...

So what nappies do you have that ACTUALLY LAST???? As I said I expected these to last 2-3 children.... and success stories out there?
