Oh, and if you are interested, and have some hemp or bamboo, you can make breastpads with your left over pul and microfleece. I made my own and after a few they got much easier (especially as I was sewing in short stints when Jack slept). I got my pattern from the Nappy Network, I used the Wee Weka pocket. I got my material from Greenbeans and it seemed much cheaper at the time, nicolaann's $7 per nappy sounds about right for what it cost me.

I definately recommend getting a pocket nappy to look at while you sew yours. You could get a cheap one off Trade Me. I bought a DIY kit from greenbeans when they were on special ages ago, and I sat down with my Mother and we managed to sew up 3 without a lot of hassle. She has since gone on to sew up more for me. I've found that keeping an eye on the greenbeans site - especially in their odds and ends area, shopping around for materials, and signing up for their newsletters helps as we've managed to make some up at some great prices.

Oh and we found it useful to have a pocket nappy already to do some comparrisons to so we knew what the instructions were talking about

They are easy to make. I got my pattern off the nappy network (think it was the wee weka pattern). Im not a sewer, but after a couple they were really easy. From memory they worked out at about $7 each (material from green beans). Def a lot cheaper than buying them.

Nappy patterns

I know some people on this forum have made them from here.

If you make them can you let me know an approximate cost? I'm intrigued to see if the time/effort & material cost is worth it against buying them cause they look tricky.

I am a sewer and even though I don't have a baby yet, nor am I pregnant, I have started to sew for my imaginary baby.....I am thinking that instead of making clothes I might try sewing nappies and make some super cute ones....and save myself some money in the process.
Anyway, has anyone tried this and if so what did they turn out like? Where would I get a pattern from?
I am an average sewer so don't want it to be too tricky!
