It's working very well except for when she comes out in the middle of the night... I'm pretty sure it is because she doesn't know what time it is when she wakes... so have to find a way of letting her know it is ok to get out. But at least it only takes a trip back to her room to shove her back in bed. Right. An update. After Annie's topic about Jacob not sleeping well, I've realised how much Hannah has been walking all over me. She had taken to coming in to my bed about 3.30am and being the lazy ass that I am, would just let her sleep in my bed. Was alright when it was just me, but when Zeke came over it was a little squished.

Anyway, so Operation Take the Power Back is in process. Changed tact on the 'Climbing out of bed' issue and have gone back to original super nanny plan of just putting her back in every time she climbs out. I started having doubts about my 'nice and caring' method of settling down with her because of the length of time it took to get her to go to sleep, especially when I was stressed as she could feel the tension. (Weirdo children.)

So yeah, I was much more determined to get the better of her this time and so stood outside her door (in front of the fire... mmmmm warm...) and as soon as I heard her climb out of bed I would storm in and put her back without lifting her into hug pose. (Does that make sense? Just lifting under the arms and not pulling her close to me) In the end (after coming out about 30 times) she packed a little tanty and went to sleep. It was so heartening to hear her whinge when I put her in bed. *muhahahaha* (I'm sounding a bit mean aren't i?!?)

Anyway, at 3.30am she made her usual journey to my room and I just picked her up and put her back in her bed and told her that she was going to sleep the rest of the night in her room. She came out again a few times and I just stood in the same place and put her back. Then she slept until 7.30am!!! YAY!

For her afternoon sleep she came out a few times but judging from the lack of noise on the baby monitor, it is safe to assume that she has gone to sleep!

I feel much more in control and almost can't wait for bedtime!!!

(Though I've just realised that I am going home in a few weeks. Yeah, I've got the routine thing too. She has a bath, then her bottle, then goes to give everyone a kiss goodnight and takes herself off to bed, then I read her a story, then to sleep.

New way of phasing out my 'sit-ins'. I've decided that instead of moving further away from her each night, that I'm going to decrease the amount of time I stay in there with her. Usually I wait until she is fast asleep before I attempt to leave. Last night she was still awake but definitely on her way to sleep and stayed in bed after I left! yay! i think also having a routine helps, caitlyn has 3 stories altho she always says "perhaps we should have one more mum to be on the safe side" the safe side of what i may ask? then i sing to her, usually rainbow connection but really anything i can think of.She rarely hops out and if she does i just look really bored to see her

Hey Nikki, Summer was SUCH a MONKEY with gettin out of bed when I first put her in a big bed, took about three nights of about an hour and a half at a time to get her to sleep, with the constant putting her back in EVERY time!!! They are sooooo persistant kids a!
But it worked in the end, I was about to go insane luckily and was soooooo hard but least she'll go to sleep at home now.

Darryl won't let me watch Supernanny anymore- I get so wound up and yell at the tv and it annoys him I hate that those poor little kids get punished for their parents incompetence.

Luckily charlotte hasn't figured out that she is now tall enough to open the door! Could you try a door wedge? Dad used to wedge a peice of cardboard in the side of the door as he shut it and it makes it quite hard to open. You can shoulder it open but it should make it a bit hard for her to do it.

I think I'm definitely going to stick with the sitting down thing. Has been working OK (well, pre-gate trial) and I think I'll be able to phase it out. (Have done this in the past with Hannah in her cot)

I think the stuff you CAN take from supernanny is to be consistent. Decide what to do and stick with it for a while before deciding that it's not working. may take a while. Tried the gate today and she played for about an hour before I decided to snuggle down with her. Then my Dad arrived home and there was no way she was settling down after that.

Luckily I could ignore her while he had "Grand-daughter" time and then he snuggled down with her at about 2.45 and she's still asleep now. May have to go and get her up or she won't be going to bed tonight!!! Hey Nikki if the fridge thing doesnt work maybe a door gate is the way. My mate did that with her girl and used to sit by the door and everytime Lyric went to get up my friend would just tell her quietly but firmly to get back to bed. At the start she would be sitting at the door for 1/2 ish but it worked.
I think Super naany and all those other programs are great but sometimes their ideas just dont work for us.
Anyway good luck. Screw Supernanny. I swear that even after an hour of putting Hannah back to bed each time she came out - she was just warming up!!!!!! I'm sure it would have gone on past midnight if I had let it. Stubborn child.

Anyway... I might get one of those little things that keep the fridge shut and put it on her door, so she can still open it but not get out.

I had to put a lock on monster number one's door when he was little - he used to climb out of bed, sneak down the stairs, let himself out of the house and go for a walk to the park!!! She used to just go straight to sleep, no playing or anything.

And if she didn't come out of her room grinning all the time I wouldn't be so bother but she thinks she's so damn smart for getting out! grrrr. and she's waaaaay too persistent to just keep putting her back into bed. I tried that for the first few nights and she was in and out for an hour!!! and then slept until 8.40am the next day because she was so tired.

Might just continue sitting with her for a while. you can get child safety locks for most type of doors, I would put that on the inside. I guess its easier to sit with her and I dont really have much trouble with Kobe so easy for me to talk but I wouldnt get into the habit of sitting with him while he slept. OK, so have done away with the cot and am taking it home when I go in a couple of weeks.

She made an excellent transition to the bed. Wasn't phased at all to be out of the cot and was sleeping perfectly.... until.... *dum dum dummmm*

The little toad discovered she is now tall enough to open her door. So, now every time I put her to bed (day and night) she climbs out straight away. Again. And again. And again. Until I get fed up and lie down with her until she goes to sleep.

Now I just sit on her bed and generally she falls asleep within 15-20 minutes. (But that is 15-20 minutes of MY time - which I value very much)

Should I continue to sit with her, maybe moving further away from the bed until phasing it out? or should I get something to lock her door so she can't get out? or do any of you other mums have a magic trick I should try?!?
