I think from what I've heard that once they start climbing over the top that it's time for a big boy bed so they don't hurt themselves.

If you post this as a separate question in the toddler section or first baby section some of the girls that have had babies do this already might have some ideas? I'd be interested in the answer too, though luckily my little man hasn't worked that one out yet!

Sasha's speach is going well and she can say 4 words mum, dad, nanna and no, it's amasing just how she knows how to use no in the right context, usually when you're trying to feed her some solids that she dosn't like she shakes her head and says no, Solids are still a bit of a struggle at times she likes fruit, chicken and meat , but seems to have a distinct dislike to veges and me trying to feed her veges has resulted in many tantrums.

Sasha seems to be going through teething reasonably well, there's only been a couple of days where she's been really grumpy, and I ended up giving her a little bit of pamol to help with the discomfort, she has 6 teeth now and chew on pretty much everything.

i've just started trying to wean sasha off breast milk and onto formula but things haven't gone well, So for now I've decided to concerntrate on getting the solids side of things sorted first and then try again to get her onto formula. So for now I'm still expressing.

I really do feel for you both. The only good to come out of it all is knowing you can cope.
I hope thats the end of the bad stuff now and she gets to be a happy baby

CIO isnt for me either. my babies only way of communicating is crying so if a cry lasts longer than 1min then theres something wrong, even if its just meaning they cant settle to sleep, they need help to do that..........awww it actually breaks my heart thinking about the CIO option

my update
Going to visit Kazper on friday!! Cant wait, will be so nice to have the babies together. Im kinda dreading and looking forward to the drive. I havent driven that part of NZ before so a bit apprehensive but do enjoy a road trip on my own(well with jesse also)

Jesse has his top teeth trying to push through so last night was probably the worst night in months. I dont think he took the whole dose of nurofen and on inspection at least 1ml was still left (DH gave it to him, thats why....lol) so he was unsettled most of the night, so ended up giving him some pamol at 330am and then putting him in hammock and sleeping on couch (yes still managing to use the hammock) its my back up plan at night but still use during the day as it means hes downstairs with me. But one tooth is just so close to coming through, i hope it doesnt go back up.....

Jesse is also crawling properly. He commando from 6months and just recently started getting up on his knees and is also pulling himself up on everything. mostly he stays on his knees no hands but now and then will pull up to standing, esp in cot. Its so cool to watch the process of learning to balance etc before going onto next stage.

9months check has him at 71cm and 8kgs

I imagine I'll have a heart attack if I wake up to find I've slept all night without her disturbing me... then once I've raced to her room to check she's still alive, I'll be over the moon

She's back to refusing to feed on my right breast again, so we had to feed lying on the bed last night so she could lie on the side she's comfy on - means those ears still aren't improving, poor little mite. I'm starting to get a bit worried now, as we are going for stronger and stronger antibiotics each time without seeing much improvement and mum said she could fix our ears as kids by taking us off dairy - well, DD is already off dairy, so I can't even try that

Her favourite trick is poking at the buttons on the TV. I don't like CIO either. Even more so if they are in pain. That always worried me with daycare, but hear they will do what ever you request when it comes to sleep which is good.

Wow swine flu, you poor things. Glad your on the other side of it though and hopefully soon she will sleep better. I guess at this stage it is the norm for you and you don't know any different. Gosh imagine that night where she will sleep right through. You won't know yourself lol

I really don't think our place is baby proof at all. We still need to get door gates. We have a fireguard and the tv and cds etc are all enclosed in a entertainment unit now cause we never use to have one, but that is as far as we have gotten really. Its one of those things that will just come in time I think.

What a clever lil girl you have. Leah no where near pulling herself up yet.
Funny about the cat door. I don't know how really, but I guess I don't have any other options? I firmly don't believe in CIO.

I thought we had this place fairly baby proof, but now that DD is pulling to stand, I've obviously got more work to do! Will be wonderful when they are older and just naturally sleep right through the night - not that I want my baby growing up too quick.

Hi jmac! Wow sounds like she is a wonderful night sleeper. Yes it is so hard after having good sleeps to waking all the time. I really don't know how I coped for months on end after she was born.
That virus sounds very scary.
Colds suck!!! Leah had a bad one over the weekend, but luckily she is coming right and only two night wakings last night. She cried out a few times before I went to bed, but settled quick after a quick cuddle.

Hope all the babies slept better last night.

Great idea though. Must be wonderful knowing DH can now get her to sleep. No way would Leah settle for my DH.

Zasha it sucks eh! DH made me feel so stink last night. He does do a lot of stuff around the house, but I would gladly exchange house jobs and he take Leah. It would make a big difference. Even for him to get up to her in the morning to allow me to even have an extra half hour in bed. I'm really starting to feel like I'm doing it all on my own. He has been going on at me to try and have dinner almost finished when he gets home so we don't eat late, but with the way Leah has been I don't even get it started some days and then one day last week I was so proud that I had managed to do things like washing and get dinner all started and the fire going. I later heard DH talking to Leah and saying that mummy got dinner on too late! I actually wanted to cry. He has no idea how hard it is now I'm tearing up. I'm usually harder than this, but the little sleep and grizzly baby is starting to wear me down.

I've had the urge to shop to and have gotten a few things with money we don't have recently. I don't know if it is because I'm feeling tired and run down and desperate to get out of house and make myself feel good. Hmmmm

Stink you have a small place. That must make the cabin fever a whole lot worse. Do you have friends with children or places you can visit. Sometimes it helps to get out at least once a day. I'm going to have to stop driving cause the cost of petrol is killing us at the mo. It's too far to walk into town for Leah and my back wouldn't like it either, so going to be house bound very soon

Yikes sorry for novel ladies. Better go and tend to my monkey.

Sasha has 2 teeth I'm wondering if the top ones will be coming through soon as she been getting pretty grumpy the past couple days and trying to fit her whole hand in her mouth, after I rub bonjela on her gums she seems much happier. sasha has been wearing size 1 now for nearly 2 months, so she's getting pretty big, and is wearing the same size clothes as my sisters daughter who's a year older. On a positive note sasha is sleeping really well, she goes to bed around 7.30pm and will sleep throught to 4-6am in the morning, day sleeps are going well too. She's still not crawling and we are are seeing an OT to try and get her to use her arms more, she has also started doing this bum shuffle thing where she pulls herself along and then face plants the floor, talking to the MIL DP never crawled, he did the bum shuffle and started walking at 14 months, so I'm wondering if sasha might be like her dad in that respect.

oh well I can here a little voice better go before she wakes DP up.

I often wear DD when I've got lots to do and she's not happy on the floor. It means I can get the housework/farmwork done while she watches from my back - awake. Then when she goes down for a sleep (well in my case IF she goes down for a sleep, sigh), I've got the jobs done already and can chill out on my own for a bit. It's a nice change from going flat out while she sleeps.

My update hasn't changed much. DD, DH and I still all have nasty colds - pretty much taking it in turns to cough all night - so not much sleep happening here. Although at least with all the coughing around her, DD is learning to be slightly better about sleeping through noise. She's a bright little thing though. Having a ball at daycare, mostly keeping up with the 10-month-olds, cos the other 6-7 month olds are not mobile enough for her. She's also FINALLY learnt to go to sleep for DH, which is a huge weight off my shoulders. I think once we eventually shake this cold (it's been 10 weeks now), we'll make some real progress with the sleeping. I can't wait!!

Certainly sounds like you have tried a lot of different things.

Great you get to have breaks on the weekends. I'm having my very own pity party at the moment for not getting breaks. I still haven't had a sleep in or some time to myself during the day. I have been somewhat difficult to live with lately, but the only way I see that changing any time soon is to get a little more help. I think it is just the stage Leah is going through. It is a lot harder when she wants to be carried all the time and I can't get things done let alone have a break. Its like a race against the clock when she is sleeping to get jobs done and I usually don't even get half of them done by the time she has woken.

Got some more clothes today. Cute as AIO, pretty shirt, hat and my mum got a dress and stocking set for her. I got all size 0 because she is growing so quick in length. Her size 000 clothes are just starting to get a little restricting now so have moved up to size 6 months in most things apart from the clothes I got today. I decided baggy is fine cause I didn't want to have to go out and buy a lot more clothes too soon.

I think hes almost ready to go up to 0 soon.

Its good you can get Leah around other kids, they do love that. Jesse spends time with my friends 18month old, shes funny, Jesse will crawl over to her and she will get upset that he touched her and hes none the wiser.

I do get to have lots of breaks in the weekend and evenings, but sometimes theres things that need to be done during the week day that will take a while and i cant guarantee that jesse will be asleep or be happy to sit and wait

I have an appt to see the doc on friday, hoping i get something i can take to help with insomnia. I have tried so many other remedies that dont work...........rescue remedy sleep, lavender in my pillow, sleep balm in my temples, a tick tock clock, a warm bath, a hot milk, hypnotherapy, relaxation cds.......the list goes on. time to see the doc for something as its hard enough to have to deal with lack of sleep with a baby but so insane when im so tired from a bad night with him and then not sleep due to insomnia!!! I need an off button for my brain.
I dont blame our brains for getting confused, one min we tell it to go to sleep, the next we forcing it out of a deep sleep and making it work to get a baby back to sleep etc.....

Poor things having to deal with getting teeth.

We have had some sleepless nights here to. I'm very very tired today. I feel like its 10pm and I'm ready to go to bed.

I know what you mean about finding carers. I'm lucky I have my mother who can take Leah during the day if I need a break. It is really good for Leah to be around the other children there as well. I got to the point last week where I had to do something as Leah has been very demanding and clingy. I know the clingy stage is normal, but I worry that it will get worse being an only child. She really enjoyed playing with the other kids and loves mum so it worked well and I was able to do things without having to carry her around.

The day care in town has a separate nursery much like the one Liam use to go to Lou. They have the same staff allocated to certain children and their own beds and linen etc. Its a great way of doing things I agree.

Got to shop on TM this morning. Leah is growing soo much. She is still a skinny light weight, but she has been growing between 2-3cm each month for the last few months. I'm now putting her in size 0 clothing. Only prob is they look ridiculously baggy and sometimes her arms come out of the wholes in the arms lol

Hes not been doing too bad, a couple of grizzly days and a couple of bad nights. Altho the tooth hasnt broken free yet. Hes on a combo of amber necklace, teething spray, bonjela & nurofen (as a last resort)

He slept through for 4 nights straight last week........gave me a little hope. It didnt last unfortunately, but he did it right when i was sick with the flu so its like he knew.

We went to the big latch on today. was nice to be around a group of other mums all feeding and breaking the record

I have been toying with the idea of looking at a couple of home based carers. Im not ready for Jesse to go into daycare, im not even sure i want to put him into a home based care. but i do need to have one or two days where i can take off for a couple of hours and get things done for my ladies pamper expos without having to drag him with me and since he doesnt spend time with anyone else besides me and DH, I really feel its good for him to have some time away from us (as long as hes happy of course) and then if i did have to go back to work the transition wouldnt be so huge and painful for him. I do get nervous about home based care though, no one else around to see whats going on and pull them up on things etc........I wish there was a daycare around that has a completely seperate nursery for the babies and crawlers like i had for my second. they had a completely seperate outdoor area they could just crawl in and out of as well. I really loved his daycare, but the ones around here generally combine all the ages in one room at some point during the day and the outdoor area is also combined which scares me........BAH just leaving my baby with anyone scares me!!!

Jesse had a wakeful day on tues also, but was really happy about it

hes still being harder at night. he will generally go down easily, generally without a peep but is waking and not able to settle himself. pretty much like most babies his age.

Also he seems heaps hungrier. I know its probably part of his sleep associations but hes waking at 11pm and wont sleep unless hes been fed. He will still be awake after his feed and will go down fine and fall asleep but his tummy needs to be full. This happens at 3am also and quite often by 7am he really wants a feed, like this morning, he often plays when he wakes but this morn he was super hungry.
hes eating enough solids during the day too. I tried him on toast this morn but he wasnt hungry......not surprised with all the milk he had all night....lol
Kinda like when someone skinny complains of being fat to an overweight person......lol

I dont get a great deal more than you due to my insomnia though(altho its just me awake no baby at those times). And naturally I am awake when Jesse is asleep and finally get into a deep sleep then he wakes up......I think if i was to ever torture someone I would use the wake up technique. I blame my second child for my insomnia. he was such a bad sleeper I think my body got used to waking up every 1-2hours.
I do manage to get into a deep sleep from about 3am on wards, so I am very thankful of those hours cos without them i dont think i could function. but when my insomnia isnt playing up, I actually feel worse. like my body is used to being awake all those times.......thats what i kinda meant by that.....

And i hope you get to experience too much sleep soon!!!

She' a little rascal when I change her at home though. Might have to put up a mobile.

Lou I laughed out at your sleep comment. I'm getting LESS sleep than when she was a newborn, I think. Before the reflux kicked in, she would do a 4-5 hour sleep back then. Now it's very rare to get more than 2 hours, and each night is stacked on top of 7 months of severe sleep deprivation, so it's definitely getting harder to cope with every night. I envy those of you struggling because you are having to adjust to the occassional bad night

We are having teeth problems here too. These darn top teeth are driving us both crazy. I told the plunket nurse what I had heard and she said it is possible because at this age they know alot more than we give them credit for. Sashas babble was become way more structured in the last couple weeks, more like real speach patterns. I'm guessing sasha is going to be slower with the crawling and walking but the way she's going with her speach she might be going to be an early talker.
