Hi There.

My 8yr old DD has been grinding her teeth at night for years now, basically since she first got teeth i think. The noise is horrible i know, but you'll adjust to it eventually

My DD doesn't do it every night, usually if she overtired, or had an especially hard or stress full day ( like when she see's her father)  Try and keep her from getting to tired and try doing something really calming before bed, as this can help them 'wind down' a bit more.

we see alot of teeth grinders at work, usually its completly harmless, although sometimes can cause jaw stiffness, or can also cause excessive wear especially in front teeth, and can also cause teeth to feel tender & sensitive in adults, kids generally will do it occasionally & most will grow out of it, adults can have a special mouthguard made up out of really thin clear material its quite hard which they can wear at night to protect their teeth and also stops the awfull noise, you could possibly get one made up for keira but i think they may be reluctant to do this with her being so young, if you do get worried tho take her to see a dentist about it or a dental nurse, although most dental nurses wont do anything but they can give you a referal to see a dentist which means it would be free otherwise you would have to pay a consult fee which could be as little as $20 or lots!! depending where you live.
but she may grow out of it in a few month

I myself am a teeth grinder and can also sometimes end up waking myself up aswell! I had seen a doctor about it because i ended up with jaw problems because of it and for awhile had to wear a plate (mouthguard kind of thing) at night when sleeping. The doctor said the reason that it happens is because basically your brain is supposed to "shut off" when you sleep but mine wasnt. Im not sure if its the same for everyone but maybe if her brain is quite stimulated before bed that could be the case? This is just my experience though and could be completely unrelated. Keira has started grinding her teeth at night. I am not sure if shes awake or asleep but I am constantly waking to the sound of her teeth grinding - It has to be the worst sound ever, and then I cant sleep because of it.

Anyone else ever had this? Is there something wrong? Is there anyway to stop it??
