Hmmmm so if we have a front loader I should be using less than the recommended cap full of detergent per load?? We use Persil Small n Mighty Non Biological liquid and the normal dose is one cap full for a dirty load. I have been using a brand of liners recently that are a bit crap and keep getting tangled up and not staying put so the barrier cream is probably getting on the nappy - the poop sure is I'll try and find the oxygenator stuff they talk about.

I did do 3 back to back washes, one at 60 degrees and the other at 40, it seems to be on hot days the smell is worse as today was much cooler and I didnt notice it so maybe its just the heat and Hayden having concentrated wee's from being less hydrated. I find Caneston Laundry rinse seems to fix smelly nappies. Could be, especially since you mentioned he's a little bit rashy at the mo too. You don't always need to strip them, depends on whether you use barrier creams, how much and what detergent you use and what sort of wash you do. Apparently a couple of hot wash cycles with some white vinegar will help rinse out the buildup but isn't stripping as such, stripping usually involves the use of baking soda too.

Course the rash could just be because of the warm weather, and if you have smelly nappies but no leaking problems then it could also be that you're not using enough laundry powder.

Probably naughty of me to link to it but there's a thread on TNN all about stripping nappies which could be helpful for you to read. The HoneyChild website also has a Washing Guide which has useful washing info including stripping instructions.

The weather is very warm at the moment and Hayden's tots bots are starting to smell strongly of wee after only an hour or so on and not particularly wet - does this mean they might need stripping? We've been using this set of cloth nappies for about 5mths and not stripped them yet, is it something I should do as a matter of course or as required?
