I figuer jake can't really say things well enough. I mean he can say "raining" and "plane etc, but he probably wouldn't be able to say when he needed to go. Althought he other night when he peed in the bath, he was investigating and ended up spraying everywhere....curiosity or annoying? You decide!

After we'd filled in three or four charts we bought her a "big treat" - the Piglet's Big Movie DVD that had just come out, and put it on top of the fridge where she could see it but not get it. We told her that she had to fill in the rest of the current chart, and all of the next one, and then she'd get the DVD.

At first she got stickers for going to the toilet... once Kiya had got the idea and was taking herself when she needed to go, we changed it to stickers for staying dry. It worked out to be one sticker for staying dry breakfast to lunch, one for lunch to afternoon tea time (around 3pm), one for afternoon tea to bed (7pm) and a bonus one if she'd stayed dry all day.

I didn't bother with using a potty or kids toilet seat... I couldn't see the point in needing to take it with me when we went out! I got a step-type stool from $2 shop and Kiya would sit right on the "grown-up's toilet like a big girl".

When I was in aussie i brought a wee lolly jar with a tiger on it filled with lollies and Kobe was allowed one after he went to the toilet thinking once they were gone we would start a star chart but now he always asks for a "special lolly" and Im not sure how to swap cos he gets so excited. I dont like using food as a reward though but I guess for a while if it works we will keep doing it. I dont use the potty with him but thats more his choice than anything cos he loves his toilet seat.

    Author: meow
Subject: 2835
Posted: 13 June 2006 at 8:35pm

We decided to make a star chart for Ella on the weekend, she gets a star for doing either poos or wees on the potty. Then she gets a reward after 10 stars. Since Sunday she has gone on her potty 7 times, 2 of those were #2's! She was only going randomly before that.

I guess my question is, is this the right way to go about toilet training? It just kind of happened, I do have to ask her most of the time if she wants to go, but she is starting to say, "mummy take pants" off sometimes too.

Oh and is it better to get them used to using a toilet seat or is the potty fine too? It's just so freezing in our toilet room so I let her take her potty into her room by the heater (she always shuts the door on me, wants privacy hehe).

Thanks!

Edited by meow
