Snap! When I'm about to change a nappy the first thing I do is run a cloth wipe under a warm tap - I've always thought a warm wipe must feel so much nicer than a cold one

Great idea T_Rex! That makes sense hehe, especially when my bub is at the age (and has been for some time) when she likes to roll over as soon as the nappy is off, which is awkward when there is a mess to clean up and you need to go wet the wipes!
Also good idea about home made disposable wipes Rianna! My MW suggested a thermos that got filled with hot water every morning, so that there is warm water for wetting the wipes with, without having to go to the sink and wait for the water to warm up each time. Thats a good idea Rach. I have some towelling material I might cut into small wipes and use them.

I also make my own wipes. Janiceilla in the September 09 thread gave us her recipe. I use paper towels cut in half and seperate them then put the pile into the huggies wipes container.

Then mix 1 to 1.25 cups of boiling water, 5mls of QV Oil and 5mls of baby wash. Pour the mix over the wipes and let them soak it all up. Hey, we have a bunch of muslin wipes (like 40 of them lol) and keep them (dry) in one of those plastic huggies wipes containers that someone gave me. At change time I just pull out a cloth, run it under the hot tap, and wipe bubs with it (or 3-4 clothes if it's a messy poo haha). Then pat her dry with a dry cloth. I've got a few muslin cloths that I use in a mini bucket, usually just chuck a couple into the bucket for the day with some water. I'll normally use disposable wipes while I'm out since I have quite a few of those.

We have always used facecloths and warm water - we just use a (specific) container, and get fresh warm water each time, and have a large stash of facecloths we use only for bum-wiping . If you put a couple of drops of tea tree oil in the water, that could make it last longer? i have started using cut up chux cloths as nappy liners (saving a small fortune there!)

was thinking about having a tub of homemade
"wet wipes" as well using either small face cloths or chux

can you suggest a good system ??

an ice cream container and some water ? how long will they last without becomming smelly
