Our DS is severe to peanut. He has only had SPT done once, at about 5 months (he has always been RAST tested since). He was 10mm+ - which I believe is the maximum. He is now 3.5years old, and he has never eaten anthing with peanut in it. The only reaction we have had to date was from someone breathing on him after having peanut butter - his face went all swollen on one side and got red welts on it. I will need to do that with penicillin soon... just to be sure- I react this way with augmentin which is a penicillin based antibiotic- just never tested properly. I guess we should look into whether Locks is also allergic to it.
Guess thatll be a hospital visit.

We talked about parking up outside whenever we introduced a new food- just in case lol.

our allergy paed showed me a reaction of a young boy with a bad reaction (was just a pic of his back so I dunno who he was), he was older but the test had still been done on his back not his arm like they do with adults, pretty much his whole back had come up in a big red patch. The doc showed me the pic cos I freaked at peanuts coming up and he wanted to reassure me that Spencer was right at the lower end of reactions.

I know its not totally relevant- but I am allergic to bananas- badly allergic. And a few years ago I did a home test (not scientific as such!) Reason being- I developed the allergy in my teens, and having not been near them in years wanted to see if Id grown out of the allergy.
So- I scratched my forearm lightly with a sterilised pin... and rubbed a wee bit of babana on it. Within 5 min the scratch was swollen and red, and in 10 min my arm was affected too, and asthma was kicking in. I quickly downed some antihistamine, and washed it thoroughly... but wow! what a reaction- I guess Im still allergic.
I wonder if babies would have a similarly violent reaction if it was a major allergy???

Hey, Spencer came up as a 5mm at 12 months and is now a 4mm. The allergy paed said there are no guarantees but he thinks if he were to eat a peanut the worse that would happen is he would get a skin out break and a sore tummy (obviously they can't say 100% until he eats one). We were advised to keep him away from all nuts, he was tested for cashews and was negative but the doc still said no nuts at all for now.

We are not overly careful, we still have nuts in the house and DH eats peanut butter almost everyday and will eat it around Spencer, we just give him his own toast if he is asking for some of daddies and he's always been happy to have his own but with a different spread. Harry had a skin prick test the end of November, and came up as allergic to peanuts (wheal was 3mm). He was re-tested again last week (so just over a month later) and the wheal was 4mm.

He's being referred to an allergy specialist, but I was just wondering - those of you with littlies with peanut allergies, how severe is their allergy and what did the wheal measure in their skin prick test?
