Hi, we had the tommee tippee monitor to start with but found it really noisey - might have just been some interferance around our house, but we returned it to the shop and they gave us a refund, apparently a couple of people had returned for the same reason. We now have a Philips Avent and it's brilliant, tells us the temperature in her room, can turn volume right down and just use the lights and you can turn on lullabies without actually going into the room - which has been very handy! Just noticed that babycity has $100 off them at the moment so only $150 - seems like a good deal to me.

Four eyes have you turned the sensitivity knob down to see if that helps? We have an Angelcare monitor because it had the best range available and we live on a big section and I wanted to be able to hear her if I was in the garden. Both Angelcare and Tomee tippee reasurance are good.
they both have sensors the Tommee tippee one is cheaper, and works in a similar manner.. (Had Angelcare for our daughter and have the Tomee Tippee version for our son)

Im a sensor pad fan but thats just to do with personal experience with DD ours saved her from a sids..

I just got a brand new Angelcare AC401 for $300 on Trademe yay :)

I've got an Angelcare Sound and Movement monitor and it seems great.  I baught it second hand off Trademe as there was no way I could afford a new one.  I don't actually use the sound monitor (our house is small and I can hear her easily) but after being in NICU for 2 weeks I'm emotionally dependent on the movement monitor to tell me she's still breathing at night.  I think once she's older I'll use the sound monitor more.

We've got a Phillips Avent monitor, it's sound only. We only need one because we're in a 2-storey house with bedrooms upstairs and living downstairs. I can't hear Callum if I'm down here and the monitor is off. Mind you, sometimes I can't hear him on the monitor either I go in to check because he's been asleep (apparently) for way longer than usual and he's just sitting up looking at the door and waiting for me

Angelcare monitors were out of stock in Singapore (yes, over the whole country when I needed to get one in a hurry when C was born .. if I'd been able to get one at the time I probably would have bought it as I was freaking out that C was even coming home (he was prem). Have a look on Trademe if you want an angelcare one. They are heaps cheaper.

I bought a Jolly Jumper one from trademe for $30 and it's just a sound one.   Works perfectly.

I had a Phillips one with Sam but I sold it as the layout of our house at the time meant I could hear him from everywhere.

We got given a tomy one. But I only ised it it if baby was asleep in the day and I was out of earshot; hanging out the washing or in the garage.
You'll that many people have different opinions on this. Hi, we are looking at buying a first baby monitor. Could I get your ideas and opinions on whether or not we just need sound or if sound and movement is necessary? And which brand - versus cost?
