Not sure what happens if you have testing and the baby has an illness or chromosomal abnormality. I know in the contract it says you aren't allowed to have caffiene or alcohol, and they reserve the right to test you to make sure!!!

I totally agree, i think they would give it their best go to get you your baby! Although i'm sure they always do, but it would take the mental pressure off yourselves knowing that you've paid upfront and you are so likely to get a baby in the end.

But if you miscarry at any time that is not counted?

I think at this stage we will carry on applying for cover- the clinic said we were good candidates for it- and given we pay som much they must do their REAL best to get you pregnant and keep the money!!

That one would be easy to check, though.

We were going to do this. We'd given it a lot of thought, and decided that paying $26-grand-ish, with roughly an 85% success rate, was a better option for us than paying $10-grand-ish for one cycle, with a 40%-odd success rate.

I also liked the fact that the scheme works because some people do get pregnant on the first go. So even though it would feel like a waste of money if we did, I'd know that the extra money I'd spent was allowing someone to have three goes if need be, or pay her a portion of what she spent back if it didn't work. It's not like you'd be lining some fat cat's pockets.

I was actually quite satisified with the 'live baby' clause. It is possible that the baby could die straight after birth, but I was happy with the odds, and very pleased that the scheme did extend that far (not just to a 20-week scan or something).

Obviously, we didn't end up having to go down that track, but for what it's worth, those were some of the factors in our decision.

We seriously considered it, got the application forms etc. I read the contract though and got freaked out because the definition of live birth was pretty broad - any baby with an umbilical heart beat basically. Which lead me to beleive youcould pay your 24 k ++ and still miss out if the baby you had didn't make it past delivery. And once you have had your live birth, it appeared that that's it - you've lost your entitlement to any more rounds under that cover.

Also we were using a donor so that wasn't covered etc so was an extra charge on top. I'm not sure if they accept people that have previsouly had IVF before?? If they do, despite the concerns i had, i still think it's a great idea considering the difficulty you have had after 2 rounds. I regret not choosing it as an option now that I am in the 2ww...paranoia has set in and i think, why didn't i choose the safe option!!

If you do decide to go ahead, if you have any lawyer friends, get them to look over the contract with you, because it did appear quite restrictive.

Hope this helps
