yo9u have a point Bizzy and i did say it was extreme but my boy at 2 knows the difference well and every kid is different so wat works for one is not good for another...........and at 6 i would diffently hope my boy would be able to comprehend...............but like i said i would try chickielous option first and other options........and wat ever works...........i would rather do extreme then my kid ending up in jail ..........my opionion

I tell Jake stories at night - try and make them vaguely moralistic if he is having trouble gasping a concept.

What about telling him about "bob" who has some neat toys - but not many. and he loves the toys. and then someone took them, and he was sad cause he had no toys. Happy ending the thief brought them back and he was forgiven. something like that.

i would - and have done - the taking the toy back bit and explaining how it is wrong and called stealing...

the second instance may not have been a case of stealing though. remember they dont think the same as adults yet and to him it may have been a case of just not putting them back as opposed to a sneaky case of taking them for his own pleasure IYGWIM.

Ok my son is 5yrs old, not far off 6. He came home carrying a bakugan toy which i knew wasnt his. I asked where he got it from and after some pushing on my part got the whole truth out that he went into a boys bag while he was swimming and helped himself to this toy cos he didnt have one and wanted one.

what we did

1. we made him return the toy (the boy lives over the road) and apologise and explain when he took the toy etc
2. we explained to him about stealing and law and jail etc and then made him go away and think about what his punishment could be
3. he came up with no tv for a week which i thought was good cos hes forever watching motorbike dvds or cartoon network so would be a good one to cement home daily why hes not watching it

Then 3 days later, i find him with his pockets full of another friends boys cars and he had no intention of putting them back before we left...........arrgghhhh

So now he has had all his hotwheel cars taken off him for a week.............and have told him the next time he will be going to the policestation to have a talk about stealing and what police do if people steal etc..........
