Smother them in cream - we have same problem in our house at the mo, but we had it really bad when he was 8 months, the rash looked like he was burnt.

Bepanthem (sp) works well for us, and smother him in it at night reduces it a lot.

Baking soda in bath worked well for us - someone suggested that last time. Thanks everyone - some great suggestions - we will try some this afternoon! Have also spoken to my pharmacist and he suggested trying Micreme H. So might give that a go too!

Hi, we just went through this with our toddler too - you feel so sad for them!

Ours hated the bath when his bum was sore too, though he usually loves it. Someone suggested we smear his bum with a thick layer of vaseline before he got in the bath and that made a big difference - he would get in happily and have a lovely time and then we would just gently wash/dab his bum just before he got out to get the vaseline off/give it a clean. (i should say that putting the vaseline on before the bath really just let him have his usual enjoyable bath without any pain - i highly doubt it would actually treat the nappy rash iygwim).

The other option is a shower - just watch the water splashing up from below cos that seems to hurt too.

We also let him run around with his nappy off just before bath time.

We also got a cream from the GP and alternated that with the sudocream and thankfully it is coming under control quickly now. Sometimes we put vaseline on top of the prescription cream when he went down for sleeps to give a bit of a barrier, esp if we knew a big poo was likely coming.

Good luck. I think the first day is def the worst.

Aoife used to get horrible nappy rash. I would put talc on first to dry, sudocream to treat and then vaseline to protect stinging from wees.

argh horrible! Thomas goes like this when a certain norty grandma gives him icecream. the rash comes on pretty much instantly. I do a thick coating of Bepanthen, rubbed in as best as we can, a layer of talc and a nice fresh nappy. We had a situation like that not long ago and I went to the Dr's who prescribed some cream for it. It cleared within 24hoursand I had my happy wee boy back. Thanks Bizzy - will try the baking soda tonight, we couldnt get him to sit down in the bath last night, obviously was just too sore - poor little mite! Help - believe it or not we have never had really bad nappy rash....until now. He has had a bad reaction to some antibiotics and has had violent dioreaha for 3 days. We arent on the abs anymore, but he now has really bad nappy rash. I have been using sudocrem, but its so sore that when I change him or wipe him he is screaming in agony. We couldnt bath him tonight and he is clearly really in pain.

Any ideas?
