And make sure you take it as easy (well as easy as you can with 3 kids around). Your fever suggests retained prodcts so in a practical sense you're still in the midst of a MC - you have every excuse to blob on the couch if you want.

Got my fingers crossed your new GP will get the ball rolling towards you getting healthy again.

So sorry for what you're going through and I do understand your frustration.

Have you had beta hCG tests to monitor your levels down to under 2 in case of retained product?

It does sound like you could have retained products - I have heard of others being given misopropol without having a D&C - don't know if this is a possibility in your area?

Otherwise, it may pay to talk to your doctor about whether a course of the birth control pill in conjunction with provera (if needed for heavy bleeding) during the cycle, and tranexamic acid (cyklokapron) when needed for heavy bleeding during the sugar pill week, would help your situation. The BCP won't fix if you have retained product, but the hormones may at least help stop the bleeding while you're waiting for them to work out how to help you. And if you're bleeding heavily for a long time the provera/tranexamic acid can reduce this to manageable levels.

A quick overview of my situation (well a long one really, but just in case it helps here goes)...
Had a missed miscarriage in October '09, baby had stopped growing at 6-7wks, we found out at 12wk scan. I'd had no spotting, cramping or anything so figured my body wasn't going to miscarry anytime soon by itself. Booked in for D&C at 13.5wks. That day was a nightmare of hospital botchups which I won't rehash, but after surgery bleeding was minimal and I was allowed home.

Bleeding tapered off over the next 2 weeks to almost nothing then started up again and got worse. The hospital wouldn't see me to follow up despite saying to notify them if still bleeding after 3wks. My GP was great and pushed and pushed for a specialist appointment and I finally got a letter from the hospital I'd been put on a non-urgent waiting list. Meanwhile had scans and was told I had an myometrial atereoveinous malformation of the uterus (basically blood vessels where they shouldn't be feeding my continuing bleeding). Because of the AVM they didn't want to do another D&C for retained product as it was likely to make it worse. I was still bleeding fairly steadily and by this time was on high dose iron to make it through the day. I was tested for any signs of infection due to retained product and was given an all clear, but they put me on a course of antibiotics anyway.

On New Years Eve I had a frightening night, bled through a maternity pad every 1-2hours. I seriously thought I was dying. We were on holiday and I managed to get an appointment with DH's family Dr who gave me tranexamic acid (cyklokapron) which brought the bleeding back to manageable levels. Then in February I had another major episode at work and called DH to take me to A&E. The Dr there prescribed me a course of birth control pills with provera, and tranexamic acid as needed on sugar pill days. I was off work for a week on bed rest and in that time I passed what the specialist believes was the last of my retained product. I took myself off the BCP after one cycle as the bleeding had finally stopped after 4 long months.

Its taken me a couple of months to regain strength and fitness - for 4 months I couldn't even walk a few blocks without severe cramping and clotting. It sounds like you had what I had on and off bleeding which turned out to be retatined production. If it comes back why not just tell a porky and say that the bleeding has picked up and it has been very heavy, steadily getting worse. I'm sorry, but the medical community in your area is rubbish!!! You need more answers and support then you are getting from them.

Was your midwife any good?? Can you contact her and see if she can help in anyway?

What was the gyno like that you saw?? Can you go back to them? They may take things more seriously if you're still bleeding since the last time you saw them??

It sux that you need to fight for decent medical care. Were you in pain when they gave you the painkillers, or was it just a fob off??? It seems weird that you're bleeding, so they give painkillers???

Keep pushing for help. Something does not sound right. All the best.

If that were my GP he would send me off for a scan saying there was a possibility of an ectopic pregnancy or some other "lie" to get me the scan I needed. Thats stupid that you have retained products and they won't refer you to another centre/hospital for a dnc, thats just going to lead to infection if its left too long.

The pill wont do anything if you still have something retained in there.

Go see a different Dr. Something is not right if your still bleeding... You will be low on iron too if you have been bleeding that much, contributing to your tiredness. Please get a 2nd opinion, to me it sounds like there could be come retained product...

Man I can feel the frustration through your words and I'm really sorry that you have to deal with that after everything. I can offer no advice accept to put the pressure on the doctor to do something. Giving you painkillers is not good enough in my opinion. I'm sure I read somewhere in a thread on OB that someone had the same thing and was given some meds to stop the bleeding and it worked. They then had AF as soon as they stopped the meds and then their cycle went back to normal.
