I always wondered what apples were used in NZ for cooking, I always used the 'cooking apples' in Ireland so would have no clue! I use granny smiths for all baking... in the UK there is a way better selection of cooking apples :( Granny Smiths hold their shape well which is often useful!

braeburns cook really well if you are after a sweeter apple than the trusty granny smiths. That's true I guess.

I made the mistake of actually following the measurements in a recipe last weekend. My result was icky sticky super sweet.

What brand of apple do people use for stewing, crumbles and so on?

In Ireland you could buy a cooking apple brand that was very very tart.

I'm thinking Granny Smith but just wondering what others use.
