Nice to hear I'm not the only one!

Thanks everyone for your advice. I hadn't thought about the motor thing of not being able to get his undies off. We might practice that and gradually build up the time in undies so he gets used to them, and just give him lots of time to run round in the nude (bugger that it's winter, poor child).

He "knows" that you do wees and poos in the potty (we talk lots about it in the car and when DH and I go to the loo and Daniel tells me that wees and poos go in the potty) but that's not yet connecting to action.

TT was a very long process for us and it made me feel like the most useless parent ever. Caprece was so easy which made me realise it is the child not the parent that choses when TT happens. On that note I think you have a pretty sweet attitude to it which is the way to be

I think if I was in that situation I would go back to no undies for a bit and then reintroduce them. Remind him about going to the toilet as well and maybe make a big deal of you going and how you need to pull your pants down.

Good luck!

Maybe thats why he can go on the potty without them on? If you think that could be the problem you could make a game of practising how to get them off and on easily, and maybe then he just wears them for an hour or so at a time and work up to full time again. You could wait till he wees in the potty (no undies) and then put them on him for an hour or so, taking them off again before he is likely to go wees again. Then increase the time in undies slowly.

Also, maybe you could make a big deal of telling him/showing him how you wear undies and his Dad wears undies and explain that you wear them because you can do wees/poos in the toilet. It might just help him make that conection that he is wearing undies because he can go in the potty and that they are not the same as nappies.

Will stop what he's doing, go wee, come back and tell me very proudly (often with the potty in his hands) and then gets on till next time. He'll sometimes poo in it; otherwise he'll get me a nappy and tell me he wants it on.

This has been happening for a few months. So I decided to take it forward a step. We got some undies (so so cute). But, he just wees in them. I don't know if :
a) he thinks they're like nappies, so he can wee in them (though he seems a bit upset when he's realised he's wee'd), or
b) having his bits covered means he isn't so conscious of needing to go. But that doesn't make that much sense cos it's an internal feeling of needing to go.

It's only been a couple of days and we're going gently, not making a fuss if he wees in the undies. I'm not sure what's the best way to go forward.

Do we keep trying the undies so he gets more used to them?
Do we drop the undies for a bit?

I don't care if he wets them - we have heaps now, but I don't want him getting distressed. And given that he's successful without them on, does he just need a bit of time to get used to them so all the connections line up again in his brain? I'm also not hugely fussed if he doesn't TT yet, but given that he's great without undies, I thought (and Plunket thought) it was probably a good time to give it a go.

Help! I need 0800-Toilet Trainer.
