I have watched one teacher there taking kids that are terrified of waters into the water and by the 3rd lesson they are loving it.

My daughter use to swim with one of the other teachers on the other side of the pool and it would just amaze me seeing this one teacher working with the kids as well as the parents.

There was this one little boy that was literally crying and begging his mother not to do it to him (his first lesson.) The teacher was very gentle with him and for the first bit they just stuck their feet in the water and chatted and eventually he allowed her to take him for a ride in the water.

Second lesson he cried but she quickly got him in the water and by the third lesson he would get scared going under but he would still do it and then get up and be proud.

Just let them know that your child is a bit nervous and perhaps for the first few lessons pay for individual classes until he is comfortable with the water.

Just a thought

Otherwise the Hilton Brown programme is good and they operate in Onehunga (which could be closer!).

But we would like to try him out with some lessons to get him used to the water. Swimming is not such a big deal where we come from (England) but it is for the beach lifestyle here.

We would like him to have lessons where they are quite sensitive to kids who are not naturally keen on water, so don't know whether a private swim school is best or just lessons at the local pool.

Any ideas?

Kazzam
