I didn't need to do IVF but I ttc'ed for two and half years and had four miscarriages. I was totally consumed with grief and longing for a child. Ultimately it did work out for me, which has been very healing.

What I did to cope. I vented a lot of my feelings in a blog. I went to a support group. I did lots of crafts. And towards the end I set a deadline by which we would give up ttc (which was age 40, by which time we would have been ttc for six years). I think one of the hardest things is not knowing when this phase of your life will end and setting a deadline gave me some sense of control and a sense that my life would not always be ttc.

Honestly? You WILL get over the thought of having your baby conceived in a doctor's office! HOW? Get BD'ing!! Just cause you have an IUI or IVF at a clinic doesn't mean you can't BD at home and who will ever know that if you end up UTD which particular method it worked with!

The only other way to stop TTC consuming your life is to give up completely - and I speak from experience (I am only back on here ATM as I had a question relating to AF). Otherwise be prepared for the long haul - TTC will unfortunately consume your thoughts 24/7. But only YOU need to know that!

PS I think Thomas Edison is a very wise man indeed!

Firstly hugs H, sorry to hear your having trouble TTC.

How do you deal with it? Unfort its just a matter of having to or you give up!

For sure there are ups and downs (sometimes more downs than ups) but you pick yourself up, brush yourself off and think well, whats next?

I think no matter how your TTCing it takes over your whole life, whether naturally or medical intervention, but as long as you can find a happy place amongst it all, you do get through it.

The brave face is the hardest thing, I have friends who are now on their 3rd pregnancy and we started TTCing before them, I'm sorry I don't know how to make it any easier as I haven't figured it out yet myself, any tips much appreciated!

I really hope you get your bundle of joy soon and with the minimum amount of intervention as possible.

Hi H, sorry to hear that you are having difficulty in TTC.
For us its been a very long drawn out journey (going through the public system).
At first I have taken it all in my stride,with tears and grief coming through along the way.
Since this last DI was a chemical pregnancy and having our review and deciding to go IVF with the waitlist being 9 mths (ironic isnt it!) it has definately hit home.
I have been quite teary and I feel that it has consumed my life for the last 3 or so years.
Having to wait now for 9 mths has pretty much left me in limbo and I am finding hard to cope.
I guess that having friends to support you, lovely ladies on OB and access to counselling when needed helps.

Firstly im not going to try and get pregnant with a turkey baster but we need medical help to get pregnant.

There are steps that we will probably go through before IVF (still wanting on DP to do another test before we can get referred to FA) but im having trouble dealing with the fact that our baby will be conceived in a doctors office or we may never be able to conceive at all.
