Fine on babies/infants and toddlers (according to my chemist) - sensitive skin formula and pediatrician tested. But always remember a hat, and keep them covered, sit in the shade... Etc. Try to avoid going out between 11-4pm and you can still get burnt on an overcast/cloudy day!

Oh and I was told it's a good idea to apply sunscreen 1 hour before going out in the sun.

Both DP and I have fair skin and she does too. She was cuddled in a moby a lot and I put a hat on her then did the same as T rex and used thick muslin cloths as a sun shade. In the pram I used the shade cover.

The most sun she would have gotten was getting out of the car and into pram/carrier. And even then we did that in the shade so she was only in the sun for a few seconds.

We also went to a garden wedding in Feb and she was in a summer dress so I was a bit concerned but by staying in the shade as much as possible and using her hat and muslin when in the sun we were fine.

I.e... I walk her everyday on the farm in a front pack. a sun hat will help etc.. but her face is somewhat exposed still. My husband plays horse polo so we are outside all the time in the summer... even walking from the car to a shady spot she will be exposed.. or from the shady spot to the horse truck. ..even if just on a small part of her.
To the others- thank you for your suggestions!!! I have heard invisable zinc is good!

I am really fair and so is DH so I think there's an excellent chance our baby will be too and Im terrified of him being burnt.

He wont be 6 months before the summer is over so is there nothing I can put on him sunscreen wise? I have a sun hat for him and will keep him covered and not put him in the sun- which is easy enough as I don't sit in the sun myself for the same reasons, but I'm worried about incidental day to day exposure, as I get burnt sometimes just walking down the road at the shops!

Any advice?

We used this on Jude last summer (when he was around 4 months old). It is a physical sunscreen rather than a chemical sunscreen. The key agent zinc oxide is already a key ingredient in many baby creams and skin salves anyway.

There is a Junior one in the range, but we just got the normal one as an examination of the ingredients revealed the only real difference between them was the junior one was in a roll on bottle and the normal one was in a pump bottle

It is a wee bit more expensive than other sunscreens but it lasts for ages and was the one I felt most comfortable using on such a small baby. We tried to cover up and stay under shade as much as possible but of course that's not always possible in the height of summer - so sunscreen was needed!

Edited by Delli
