ok, last night, gave him phenargan, so when he woke, it was just a cry out, then back to sleep, although we did have the near death screams at 11.45pm, so I gave him 200 mls, and another 125mls at 5 am, when we had near death again. Turns out he was ready to be up, so i dragged my butt out of bed at 5.45am, and managed to get some porrige into him at about 6.30, by playing aeroplanes. He has eaten more today, and I have been trying to make not so much of a fuss about it and am letting him graze, i.e showing him something and seeing if he does the I want that grab...His caregiver said he ate more today as well. I had gven him panadol incase it was the pointy dog teeth trying to come though as that may also be the prob, red bum, dribbles for africa etc...
Also, he only has about 400 or 500 mls a day, tops, usually 200 to 250 before bed, and during the night as he just will not have water (and I am a pushover) during the night. Drinks lots of water during the day, and has the occasional milk in the afternoon before sleep time, but not often. He eats ALOT of dairy, so not too worried about the calcuim thing.

You could try giving him water in his bottle at night (keeping the fluids up but not filling the tummy with formula) and try little bits of easily digested food during the day. I know when I am sick that dairy products like yoghurt can make me feel more blegh... Andrew gets more excited about food that comes off my plate - so you could try letting him snack while you are in the kitchen or at the table - and go for really plain foods until he settles back - non-acidic stuff? Or if the weather is nice, maybe a sandwich at the park or in the backyard? Something that shows you're not making a big deal about food so that he inadvertantly (sp) eats.
Just remember - hungry kids eat. Hrmmmm... it seems you think he is well, so the only thing I can think of is that he's worked out the good life (i.e. Mum being worried about him) so is taking advantage of it.

Han is terrible at breakfast. And worse when I am watching her. It is a dangerous move, but I have taken to leaving the room with her in the highchair and her breakfast in front of her and will come back in about 30 seconds to a minute later to find her tucking in. I can absolutely NOT ask her how her breakfast is going. If I talk to her then it is all over. Argh.

The bottle thing... take Janine's wisdom on that one. I have nothing to add because it's so hard to deal with the feigning death scream. *Shoosh but I'm currently camping beside Hannah's bed at night because I can't take the screaming*

And remember to take a toddlers diet over weeks... not over days... We went through the same and Ayja took forever to get back to normal. One thing we tried (which you may already do) is giving her a plate that stick to the highchair, with a little bit of everything on it, she tends to eat a bit of everything which makes me feel better. We also have taught her how to feed herself with a spoon - which made it interesting, but has meant she is all excited to feed herself and just keeps shovelling it in.

Plunket nurse has said to me a max of 600 mls a day in bottles at this age, so i know Ayja is probably having too many, but we have cut her down to one first thing in the morning, one before morning and afternoon sleepo and one before bed.. (and one at night when she wakes) but she only would drink 100mls at each.

Paris got to this stage about this age where she knew that she would get a bottle before her morning sleep so wouldn't eat brekkie, knew she would get one before afternoon sleep, so wouldn't eat lunch etc.. I moved her breakfast time until a bit later, made sure that under no circumstances was she to have any bottles after 4 am, by brekkie at about 8 am she was HUNGRY!, she could have her morning bottle AFTER that. Jacob had a vomity thingy last wednesday morning, and hasn't eaten normally since.
He is his usual noisy, busy, happy wee self, but is eating very very little. As in today, he has had about 4 tea spoons of yoghurt, half a piklet, one kiwi fruit and about 4 carrot rings and one half potato and some shredded chicken at tea time. Breakfast is a battle, you would think he would be starving by then, but no.

He had 200ml formula before bed, and, since last week, has been waking 3 or 4 hourly DEMANDING a bottle (obviously hungry). I tried holdig out,(around 2.30am) thinking he would have brekkie, but after half an hour, he unleashed the "help I am being murdered" scream that the neigbours commented on the next day...
I know kids won't let themselves starve, but I am almost dying from the exhaustion of the demand bottle feeding, and am a bit worried as well.

Like I said, he has no signs of illness, in fact he is better than he has been in ages, after weeks of chest and ear infections, coupled with a runny nose....
