But by 7-8 months I was finding it a bit hard on my shoulder if he was in it for ages (like if he fell asleep) so I bought a Baby Hawk which I really like.

I was considering a manduca as I tried one at Slingbabies and really liked it but the Baby Hawk was about $100 cheaper and the main difference to me is that instead of the ease of clips, you tie it up yourself (though Baby Hawk have that option for the extra cost too).

    Author: HippyMama
Subject: 36166
Posted: 13 October 2010 at 1:55pm

I've tried most brands and types of carrier, and have to say I absolutely *adore* my Manduca. I've had an Ergo, used it heaps with DD1 but she was a toddler when we had it and thus bigger - DD1 is much smaller and I found it didn't fit us as nicely as the Manduca does (personal thing there though).

I'm also a fan of the Kozy meitai, which is an asian style carrier with straps - very versatile as Delli has mentioned and comes in lots of pretty prints. There are a couple of different ABC styles / brands out there but IME the Kozy rates tops.

The Moby is good when they're quite little, IMO best from 0-6mo depending on size - after this I personally found that a woven wrap was of better use, it is a much firmer fabric (no stretch) and felt more supportive. They're also fabulous for back carries if you're up to learning that kind of thing.

And last but not least, pouch slings - LOVE my Unido pouch, so pretty and the best for very quick trips (ie: in and out of kind)... and is also the most compact when folded / rolled up. I never got the hang of cradle carry but it is awesome for hip carries from about 5/6mo plus.

Ring slings I can't personally lend much experience to as I never really got the hang of adjusting the rails properly - but I know some people adore them and favor them over pouch slings for the very reason that they are adjustable to different body shapes / heights / sizes etc.
