LOL at Andrew and the power points - it's kinda cute, and very clever, but I can understand why it's a bit frustrating for the adult members of the house!

We have 70's power points,maybe even older (50's house) and there is only one in each room. I hear ya about the utensils strewn all over the house. I'm just lucky I don't have a preggo belly to contend with, but even then it drives me near insane finding pots in the lounge with an onion and potato in them. The sockets aren't too big - we had a few replaced and the little bugger could still get the plugs out of the new ones. It seems he has really good fine motor skills. YAY.

We've tried letting him learn about the drawers - he now knows how to open and shut them without getting hurt - it's more that I'm sick of the contents of the drawers (serving spoons, spatulas, tupperware etc) being licked and put back (ewww) or walked around the house and dropped on the floor where I can't see them because I can't see my feet at present. There isn't enough room anywhere else in the kitchen to put it all, so the tape seems to be it for now.

I didn't have ANY of this with Sean as a tot - he wasn't interested in cupboards, drawers or electricity. It seems that this one takes after his dad, who quite frankly I'm amazed made it into adulthood. Ah it is also because the 1970s sockets are pretty big too right???
I can't get ours out. Hence the vacuuming not being done. Mmmhmmmm.

Maybe you could let Andrew at the drawers (moving knives to somewhere out-of-reach) and let him learn the hard way about jamming fingers...? Being the safety conscious family that we are, we've got powerplug safety plugs in all of the sockets in the house (of which there aren't that many because the house was wired in the 70s before electricity was popular!). Unfortunately most of our sockets are about 20cm from the floor - perfect toddler height.
In any case, Andrew's latest trick is to pull the safety plugs out of the socket and bring them to us, saying 'Ta' with a big grin on his face. We've gone through all three available brands on the market and haven't found one that he can't pull out! Nick has now resorted to putting packing tape over the safety plugs, over the sockets. Since deciding that would slow him down, he's also put packing tape on the drawer handles so I can't pull them open (Andrew worked out the safety locks) and can't get blimmin teaspoons out of the drawers any more. AAARRRGGGHHH. I'm not sure what is more annoying - the sight of brown packing tape randomly strewn throughout the house or not having ready access to cutlery.
