DD threw a tanty tonight over wanting more and more tomato sauce on her noddles, although there was heaps there already. Was quite something.

She was hungry, but not into her noddles. Jaycee, I usually try and ignore her or distract her with something, and if she is REALLY winding up I put her in her cot, mainly so I can calm down lol - Yesterday I put her in there and when I went to get her she was crying but all smiles when she saw me.

I think it might be an attention thing most of the time as she seems to have started this since DS has been at daycare, and when he comes home the tantys start! especially because he needs learn to share, he snatches things off her all the time and she gets SUPER angry

I like to go through a mental checklist - tired, hungry, etc - and if I'm at least fairly sure it's just for "fun", that child gets taken out of the room - put in the hallway or bedroom. I don't usually shut the door, it's just enough to remove them from attention. When they come back for cuddles, that's great so long as the attitude has changed. I ignore tantrums and they stop pretty quickly - what is the point of wasting a tantrum if you don't have an audience

Seriously though - what do you usually do when DD starts to wind up? Usually most tantrums about control by toddlers. Keep up with the ignoring or just pop her into her room.

Maybe have a look at Diane Levy - "Of Course I love you, now go to your room"

I have one of those too - only now he is a very stroppy 4 year old who still throw tantrums (though thankfully not as often). We had so many battles!

I don't think it is a girl thing, as our DD at 18 months is nothing at all like DS was. Some kids are far more work than others

In the end I bought a book on spirited children (I can look up the title if you like). It gives you some ideas, but also encourages you to lower your expectations a little and it does talk about how these kids tend to turn into leaders as adults.

Im at my wits end with DD, she is such a stroppy child, packs a tanty over the sillest things and when I say tanty I mean full on screaming and laying on her back/tummy kicking her legs kind of tanty. She cries half the day, and if she doesnt get her own way all hell breaks lose. DS never did this, he packed tantys but just normal ones...this is just full on!

Is it a girl thing? I just dont know how to deal with her anymore...is it normal behaviour?
