I remember recently reading some advice that velcro opening swimmers are best for babies not walking yet, and the pull up type are best for walkers.
I was in this dilemma recently, until I had a $10 voucher to spend with Cheeky Cherubs, so I ended up buying Banz, which are pull ups. Normally $30, but I got it for $20. I have a monkey doodlez which I got from Tweedle. DS hasn't yet done a poo in it though so can't tell you how it works in that regard.

I use an ordinary pocket nappy that I already had, just didn't put an insert it. Mothers Instinct has them as well.

I went with the Swimmi's. My boy is still wearing a small with the velcro on the most outer edge. So a medium would be a good size if you want a couple of summers out of them. Hold poo really well too.
