And you can open the front in an SIO like a normal AIO, I just done my two last night, it takes a bit of pushing and pulling past the snaps, but after me swearing at the machine for a while, I fixed mine, and they look as good as new!

Nzpiper- you need to undo the end with the 8 snaps, right in the middle is where it is not overlocked. A medium makes a hole about 6-8cm across and a large slightly bigger. The AIO's turn inside out easy, and look like the nappy lying flat, just inside out IYKWIM? the SIO are a bit more fiddly, but can be done. Take a look at that link I posted up the top, it has some good photos. I tack one end, measure the elastic at full stretch then add another 1cm, then tack the second end, then zig zag along the whole elastic bit. Its a bit fiddly but once you have done one it gets quite easy. I replaced the legs and back ones, and now have 6 more nappies to do!

Although my girl wouldn't fit OSFA nappies until she was quite old, but she was a skinny thing.

As for sleep... we are making huge progress! DD got grommets put in recently and suddenly she's no longer screaming in pain all night, so sleep has come pretty quickly from there. Be nice if she'd accept 6am instead of 5am as up time though - but seeing as she sleeps most of the night (and DH gets up to her if she doesnt, it's a minor complaint really)

Glad to hear your girl is behaving herself too

And yeah, I'm a bit *whoopsy* about timing it smack over calving too!!

    Author: T_Rex
Subject: 37756
Posted: 29 January 2011 at 6:40pm

NZpiper, the difference on the SIO is you can't open them at the front like the AIO because of the extra snaps, but you can open them on the bottom of the bits at the top that stick out with the domes on them (if you are looking at it laid out ready to put on the baby - make sense?). You don't need to make a very big hole, because there isn't any bulk to them. I did some of each the other day and it's easy even for a novice like me.

InLove - congrats on #2!! When are you due? I would recommend trying out a few brands (perhaps the ohbaby hire kit?) and seeing which one you like? I plan to do the same as I did for DD (except I won't hire the kit again) - prefolds and covers from birth until she fits small ittis, then ittis. DD is looking like she'll fit mediums until TT so hopefully #2 is the same.

Also, I presume your #1 is in nappies still? You could always move her to cloth now, then it's not really only for one baby is it? Plus it would allow you to suss out which kinds you like, and then you can just buy a few extra in smalls if need be for #2.

I've tried a cherub tree OSFA recently and quite liked that too. They are on trademe (new) at a pretty good price.

Honeychilds just last and last and last and you can stuff them with as much or as little as you need...BUT...compared to ittis, they are so bulky.

When I first started I used pockets and loved them...even made my own. I had nothing to compare them too. When ittis came out I tried them because they are so god damn cute. When No 2 came along I bought all ittis and sold my others. We did go through a phase where they didnt hold his wees but renewed the love a little while later.

Dont know what to do this time as the ittis are all large and have lost their elastic. Might try a tutto or two.

Oh, I also started DS1 with prefolds and cover from snazzipants...it was brilliant..but once again, felt so big on DS 2 (even though he was a bigger baby).

There is good ol fashioned flats....Dunedin hospital starts you off on those.
